Biography

Origin

Kallark

Centuries ago, he was brought before the Council of Elders after being seen as their most promising candidate and was informed that the Majestor of the empire felt threatened by the power of the Strontians. At this time, he was gathering recruits to join the Shi'ar Imperial Guard and was looking for the candidate from Strontia. However, he intended to use this as a test of the people if they would kill their own leaders. If they refused, the Majestor T'Korr's fears would have been informed and he intended to detonate a Starcracker warhead to eliminate the species. Only Kallark was entrusted with this information as the elders believed that he could do his duty and carry the burden of this knowledge. During the time of the trials, he participated with the others in the exam where he saved a comrade named Tenet and still completed his assignment. Such was his skill that the elders gave him a spot on the final roster into the Shi'ar Imperial Guard. A final trial was conducted of the ten candidates who went through enhancements to increase their powers to 'Gladiator-level' who were then presented to Majestor T'Korr. The leader of the Shi'ar empire was weary of the power of the Strontians and decided to test the loyalty of the candidates by ordering them to kill their Council of Elders on Strontia. This horrified one of the candidates who tried to kill the Majestor but with the Strontians confidence waning allowing for T'Korr to kill him with a weapon shot. The Majestor then demanded that the candidates complete their mission with them reluctantly agreeing to do so with Kallark and the others attacking their homeworld to kill the very elders that had trained them. Despite the objections of his comrade Harrald, Kallark continued with his duty and had to battle him when he tried to stop him from his mission. Thus, he was held as the best that Strontia had to offer and was chosen to join the other elites into the ranks of the Imperial Guard with the Majestor awarding him the position of Praetor to lead the unit. (War of Kings: Warriors v1 #1)

At some point, his cousin Xenith was noted to had turned against the Shi'ar empire thus forcing Kallark to battle her. (X-Men: Kingbreaker v1 #4)

Imperial Guard

Confronted by the X-Men, Gladiator came to reveal his name and stated that Princess Lilandra was a traitor to the empire who they intended to keep their prisoner. (X-Men v1 #107)

He responded to an encroachment from Skrulls into Shi'ar space where he pursued their vessel to the Sol system. Kallark came to arrive on Earth continuing his pursuit where he attacked the Baxter Building after mistaking the Fantastic Four for the alien shapeshifters. (Fantastic Four v1 #249)

Majestor

Whilst on Chandilar, he had a meeting from Cosmo who recruited him to join a new superpowered team called the Annihilators that would handle extreme threats to the cosmos. Their first mission was traveling to Attilan where they helped thwart Blastaar from attempting to claim the throne of the Inhumans from Queen Medusa. (Thanos Imperative: Devastation v1 #1)

This saw him managing to land a sudden attack on Asgard where he took the guardian of the Bifrost Heimdall by surprise. (Mighty Thor v2 #15)

In time, he decided that he needed to step down as ruler of the Shi'ar Imperium and instead relinquish the throne to Princess Xandra who represented the royal Neramani line. However, the young Shi'ar girl was not mature enough to rule and it was decided that she needed a regent to help train as well as mentor her. Thus, it was decided to end Deathbird's exile and return her to Chandilar to serve as her niece's regent with Gladiator dispatching Smasher with the task of recovering the former renegade. Unknown to him, Oracle did not believe Xandra was a fit ruler and that Gladiator should remain on the throne. Thus, she secretly contacted the Shi'ar Death Commandos and tasked them with eliminating Deathbird. Deathbird was saved by the New Mutants who escorted her to Chandilar where she attacked Oracle after learning the truth about the assassination. Unaware of this, Gladiator believed Deathbird had betrayed them leading to a battle between the Imperial Guard and the New Mutants. This was only ended when the truth of Oracle's actions was revealed with Xandra punishing the Guardsmen by appointing her as her advisor to better train her as a soldier. After hostilities ended, a portal was established to the Mutant nation of Krakoa with Gladiator thanking Cyclops for the X-Men's aid and stating he was in their debt. Cyclops then asked if a portal could be placed on the beautiful floating island of Chandilore so that it could be used as a vacation spot for the X-Men with Gladiator agreeing to it.
