Biography
Harold Meachum was the business partner of Wendell Rand, father of Daniel (who would later become Iron Fist). When traveling with his business partner and his young family to uncover what would be a major discovery in business, they came across K'un-Lun, a stronghold of a colony of humanoid aliens whose spaceship crashed in a pocket dimension that intersects with Earth. Wendell saved the life of the city's ruler Lord Tuan and was adopted as Tuan's son. However, Wendell eventually left K'un L'un and became a wealthy entrepreneur in the United States. He married socialite Heather Duncan and had a child named Daniel. When Daniel was nine, Wendell organized an expedition to again seek out K'un-L'un, taking his wife Heather, his business partner Harold Meachum, and Daniel. During the journey up the mountain, Daniel slipped off the path, his tie-rope taking his mother and father with him. Meachum, who also loved Heather, forced Wendell to plunge to his death but offered to rescue Heather and Daniel. She rejected his help, preferring to journey without him or die. (Marvel Premiere v1 #15)
Meachum returned to New York, but due to the dangerous weather, had to have his legs amputated. When Daniel returned to get his revenge as Iron Fist, he took pity on Meachum's current state and spared his life. However, a ninja working for Master Khan ended up assassinating Meachum anyway. His daughter Joy assumed Iron Fist had killed him and his brother Ward Meachum started planning his revenge on Iron Fist. (Marvel Premiere v1 #18)
Around twenty years ago, he had employed a cleaner that worked for the wealthy businessman. During this time, Meachum was restless and he came to notice that the cleaner was pretty with her having an affair with him. The woman had only wanted his love but he only offered her money in return though she tore up the cheque given to her. Despite this being the case, she still intended to pursue a relationship with him as she was pregnant with his child and believed that their offspring would bring them together. She later gave birth to a daughter that she showed to Harold Meachum with him being overjoyed at having a child and promising to care for the two of them. Harold had even promised to leave his own family for the woman and their daughter which he intended to do after returning from a trip with his business partner. (Iron Fist: The Living Weapon v1 #12)
He later met with his mistress and other daughter where he decided to sever ties with them. (Iron Fist: The Living Weapon v1 #12)
Following Harold Meachum's death, his mistress's poor health led to her dying of a broken heart but on her death bed she asked her daughter to get vengeance. His daughter agreed to do so and decided to avenge her parents by killing Danny Rand who she blamed for the death of her father. To achieve that end, she took the identity of Brenda Swanson and began training herself for the eventual confrontation with Rand. (Iron Fist: The Living Weapon v1 #12)
