Biography
Hashirama Senju (Japanese: 千手柱間, Hepburn: Senju Hashirama) was a male human born in the Ninja World as the son of Butsuma Senju (千手仏間, Senju Butsuma) of the Senju Clan (千手一族, Senju Ichizoku). He lived during the Warring States Period (戦国時代, Sengoku Jidai) where he was the eldest son and had three younger brother. This violent period saw the young of the clan becoming ninjas and fighting on the battlefield where they came to fight their bitter rivals in the Uchiha Clan.
One day, he was by the river when he encountered a boy his own age named Madara where the two quickly forged a friendly rivalry. Neither would reveal their last name but came to find much in common with one another. This time saw them often skipping stones or urinating in the river or engaging in contests with one another where Hashirama typically winning these matches. Hashirama kept these encounters secret from his family and continued his service to his clan. Over time, he came to disagree with the practice of sending children to fight in war and die as he believed this simply created a cycle of bitterness between both sides thus perpetuating even more conflict. Afterwards, two of his brothers namely Kawarama and later Itama both died in battle leaving only his other brother Tobirama Senju his only remaining sibling. The brothers would decide that a new shinobi system would need to be implemented in order to end the cycle of child deaths but such a change would require an alliance between the Senju and Uchiha. By this point, Hashirama had still travelled to the river and spoke with his friend Madara who had similarly experienced loss from the war as he had lost brothers in the conflict. The two imagined a world where children like themselves would not need to fight and where their brothers would be safe from harm. Though neither had revealed their last name, they came to suspect that the other was from the rival clan. Despite their duty, neither would kill the other as they were unwilling to take the life of a friend.
Overview
Personality and attributes
In appearance, Hashirama Senju was a tall male with tanned skin and dark eyes who had waist-length black hair typically styled in a centre-parted fringe that framed his face. Such was his skill and fame that he came to be known as the God of Shinobi (忍の神, Shinobi no Kami, English TV: The Supreme Shinobi). He was notable for being the First Hokage (初代火影, Shodai Hokage) and founder of Konohagakure.
He was shown to be an excitable man with a boisterous personality. He loved meeting new people, having friendly competitions, and gambling.
After the hidden leaf was established, he came to marry a member of the Uzumaki clan with his wife being a red-haired woman named Mito Uzumaki (うずまきミト, Uzumaki Mito).
He came to have two grandchildren with these being Tsunade (綱手, Tsunade) and Nawaki (縄樹, Nawaki). Tsuna had been his first grandchild leading to Hashirama spoiling her rotten. This led to her picking up some of his bad habits including his gambling.
In his childhood, he came to forge a lifelong friendship and rivalry with Madara Uchiha (うちはマダラ, Uchiha Madara) to the point of considering the man to be a brother.
Powers and abilities
Hashirama Senju was a human able to manipulate Chakra (チャクラ, chakura) that he could use to achieve a number of feats.
He famed as the strongest shinobi of his era and one of the strongest in history leading to his reputation as the God of Shinobi. Even his rival Madara Uchiha claimed to be inferior to the power of Hashirama even when he possessed the Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan and the Nine-Tails. Hashirama was also able to subdue and capture eight of the nine free-roaming tailed beasts on his own power.

After founding Konohagakure, he came to be the first of the Kage (影, literally meaning: Shadow) where he became the hidden leaf village's leader and took the mantle of Hokage (火影, literally meaning: Fire Shadow).
