History

Homo Insectus were a subgroup of Mutants that possessed the ability to control the long dormant insect gene which was present in roughly one third of all Humans on Earth. This was a leftover of Human evolution when mankind split from insects. Those that were a member of Homo Insectus were able to control all insects on the planet and an estimated one third of all mankind due to them possessing the insect gene.

One individual who was a member of this subphylum was the Human known as the Queen.

She would get transport to New York City where she sought out Spider-Man. In response, the U.S. military alongside Captain America looked to intercept her before she could achieve her goals. Entering the city, she began mind controlling people to serve her as she made a large spectacle atop a large building. Spider-Man then arrived at the scene to stop her where he was eventually overpowered by a sonic shriek from the Queen. Despite Captain America's intervention, he was unable to stop the Queen as she went about claiming Spider-Man for herself. (Spectacular Spider-Man v2 #15) Taking the two heroes captive, she went about hiding in her hive whilst the U.S. Army and S.H.I.E.L.D. looked to move in to stop the Queen. (Spectacular Spider-Man v2 #16)

Overview

It was said that the members of this race possessed the insect gene. (Spectacular Spider-Man v2 #16)

They were shown to possess telekinetic abilities allowing them to easily move large objects with their mind. (Spectacular Spider-Man v2 #15)

Some were shown to emit a high frequency scream able to incapacitate a living target. This caused their quarry to fall down in pain and be disoriented. (Spectacular Spider-Man v2 #15)

Certain female members of the race were able to control insects and those possessing the insect gene. (Spectacular Spider-Man v2 #16) It was this trait that allowed them a degree of mind control ability causing others to obey their commands. Those under the command of such individuals were said to be drained of any free will. Such people would do anything to protect her and risk their lives even to do so. (Spectacular Spider-Man v2 #15) A small part of them may resist but ultimately they were completely subservient to the point that if commanded to kill themselves they would obey without question. People subjected to their control came to be part of the hive. (Spectacular Spider-Man v2 #16) As such, males came to serve as drones within the group. (Spectacular Spider-Man v2 #17)

They were said to be superior to ordinary humans and believed that they would not only survive but thrive once mankind had died out. (Spectacular Spider-Man v2 #17)
