Jack Hardemeyer was the personal assistant of Mayor Lenny Clotch during his second term as mayor in 1989. Described by Peter Venkman as a bureaucratic bookworm when the two met on the set of World of the Psychic, Hardemeyer viewed Venkman and the rest of the Ghostbusters as two-bit frauds and publicity hounds and did everything he could to prevent them from seeing the Mayor.

When the Ghostbusters turned up at City Hall to warn Mayor Clotch about the underground river of negatively-charged mood slime generated by all the negative energy in New York, the treacherous Hardemeyer went behind the Mayor's back and had Venkman, Ray Stantz, Egon Spengler, and Winston Zeddemore committed to Bellview Insane Asylum. This blew up in his face later as, when the slime was overtaking the city, a desperate Mayor Clotch ordered Hardemeyer to call the Ghostbusters. Upon learning that Hardemeyer had had the Ghostbusters committed, Clotch fired his assistant on the spot.

Comments

As seen in the closing credits of Ghostbusters II, the jobless Hardemeyer, despite his hatred of the Ghostbusters, turned up among the crowd of New Year's Eve onlookers to cheer them on in their battle against Vigo.
