Biography
With no family to rely on, Jack and Grace decided to raise their son by themselves. Unknown to them at the time, Maggie was suffering from postpartum depression where she began to feel paranoia as she felt that Jack was working against her and that all the attention she should have was being placed on young Matt. One day, this caused her to lash out at her son with Jack quick to protect Matthew and this event horrified Grace leading to her leaving the house over her actions. This resulted in Jack becoming a single father who came to raise his son by himself. (Daredevil v4 #7)
Ten years ago, a notorious boxing manager known as the Fixer came to see Murdock in order to recruit him for a fight. Such was his reputation that Jack refused and threw Sweeney out of his dressing room and swore that he would never work for the man. (Daredevil v1 #1)
In the 1950's, he operated as a prize fighter though by this point he noted to himself that he was past his prime. He was unable to get a fight in weeks as no one wanted to manage Murdock. Thus, he was only given a single option which was to meet with the Fixer. (Daredevil v1 #1)
One day, he went to see his son who was not home at the time only to hear the news that Matt was involved in an accident. He went to save a blind man who was going to be hit by a vehicle but this led to the young Matt being hit by chemicals from the Ajax Atomic Labs truck. (Daredevil v1 #1)

He often encouraged his young son to study with him stating that this was a promise he made with Matt's mother. This was that he would not let his son to grow up as an uneducated pug. (Daredevil v1 #1)

- In Spider-Man, Jack Murdock made a brief appearance in a flashback sequence in the 1994 animated series episode "Framed" with a non-voiced role and was not named. He was shown when Matt Murdock explained his backstory to Peter Parker who said that his father was a boxer who struggled to make ends meet to provide for his family. This caused him to hire himself as a thug to Wilson Fisk where he robbed a convenience store but his young son Matt Murdock saw him in the end. Shocked at his fathers actions, Matt fled with his father attempting to explain when the boy ran onto the street as a tanker truck was driving. The crash caused radioactive chemicals to blind Matt Murdock who was hospitalized. The tankers movement of the radioactive chemicals was illegal with Jack Murdock investigating and he discovered that the transport was done so by the actions of Wilson Fisk. Murdock attempted to find proof which he discovered but he was caught by Fisk's men and was never seen again.
