Biography
Jaina Proudmoore was a female human born the daughter of King Daelin Proudmoore and his wife Katherine Proudmoore of the kingdom of Kul Tiras in the world of Azeroth.
From a young age, she came to demonstrate magical talent that saw her being sent to Dalaran where she began an apprenticeship with the Kirin Tor. Following persistent badgering, she came to be accepted as an apprentice of the Kirin Tor's leader the Archmage Antonidas where she became of the few female wizards of the time. In this time, she quickly came to be his star pupil with her mentor believing that she could become the greatest sorceress in human history. By this point, she came to meet the High Elf Prince Kael'thas Sunstrider of Quel'thalas who became enamoured with Jaina though she did not share his feelings and instead devoted her time to her studies. She also came to meet Prince Arthas Menethil of Lordaeron where the two shared an attraction to one another though never entered into a relationship as they each devoted themselves to their respective paths.
A few years later, a mysterious plague came to engulf the lands and swept through northern Lordaeron with Antonidas eager to learn more about it. Around this time, a mysterious figure known as the Prophet arrived in the King's court where he urged that they abandon the land and take their people west to Kalimdor. However, Antonidas dismissed the Prophet's words as being the ravings on a madman with Jaina having watched these events unfold in hiding. She came to sense great power in the figure and suggested perhaps they should heed his warning but Antonidas instead wanted to learn more of the plague affecting the land. He came to send Jaina to accompany Prince Arthas where they were to investigate a plague outbreak in the northern village of Brill. She rendezvoused with Prince Arthas after easily dispatching some bandits that had targeted her during her travel. In this time, she and Arthas came to rekindle their relationship where he had hoped to marry Jaina after solving the mystery of the plague. At Brill, they encountered a necromancer commanding a zombie composed of multiple corpses that they came to dispatch whereupon they began fighting more undead foes. They later came to find the source of the plague that was infested grain that bore the seal of Andorhal that was the primary distributor of it in Lordaeron. The two came to pursue the necromancer Kel'Thuzad where they defeated his horde of undead warriors after which Prince Arthas killed him. Returning to central Lordaeron, they arrived in the small town of Hearthglen where to their horror they learnt that the plague-infested grain from Andorhal had been distributed amongst the townsfolk turning them into undead. Prince Arthas had Jaina dispatched to find Uther Lightbringer and bring reinforcements but by the time she returned with knights from the Silver Hand she found the entire town of Hearthglen to had been destroyed. The incident came to demoralise Arthas who was horrified at fighting the undead where he aimed to stop the plague's spread by confronting the Nathrezim Dreadlord Mal'Ganis.
Worried about what the hatred for Mal'Ganis was doing to Arthas, Jaina used an invisibility spell and caught up with him on the road after he had an encounter with the same Prophet who had accosted Antonidas. The two continued toward Stratholme until dusk, at which point the two made camp and slept with each other, pushing away thoughts of death and plagues and finding comfort in each other. The following day, Arthas, Jaina, and Uther reached Stratholme but didn't arrive in time to stop the townspeople from eating the tainted grain. All three knew that the people of Stratholme would soon become undead and attack them. Arthas was in favor of slaughtering the people before their transformation to purge the town, but Uther could not condone murdering helpless people whose only crime was being infected, even if leaving them alive meant they would soon become a threat. When Uther refused to kill the civilians as Arthas ordered, Arthas renounced him, accusing him of treason. He demanded that any true to the king stay with him and see to the town's destruction. Unable to watch Arthas massacre the city, a tearful Jaina departed with Uther. Arthas was shocked and wounded by Jaina's decision, seeing it as a betrayal of the promise she had made the night they became lovers. After purging Stratholme, Arthas met with Jaina and pleaded with her to accompany him to Northrend to hunt Mal'Ganis, but she refused and warned him that it sounded like a trap. The following day, Jaina and Uther returned to Stratholme's burning ruins. Both were appalled at what Arthas and his men had wrought. After revealing to Uther where Arthas had gone with Lordaeron's fleet, Jaina was visited by the mysterious prophet who had previously visited Terenas, Antonidas, and Arthas. The prophet sensed her leadership abilities and urged her to take the people she could with her to the west, fleeing Lordaeron and her home country of Kul Tiras. Many months later, Arthas and the Scourge began their invasion of Dalaran. It was at this moment, Jaina and Antonidas realized that the prophet had been right. Antonidas encouraged Jaina to take as many survivors of Lordaeron she could find and sail west for Kalimdor. At first, Jaina resisted, but after much debate, she relented. She understood, just as Antonidas did, that Dalaran could not stand against the Scourge. Master and apprentice parted ways, knowing that it would be the last time they would either see each other.
