Joseph Whemple

Joseph Whemple was the half-brother of Stephen Banning and the uncle of John Banning. He helped his brother and nephew uncover the tomb of Princess Ananka in 1895, despite not being an archaeologist. Three years later in 1898, when Kharis the living mummy was sent by Mehemet Bey to kill the members of the expedition who had disturbed Ananka's tomb, Joseph Whemple was the second to die, after his brother. He was at his nephew's house at the time, and despite John's efforts to save his uncle, Kharis succeeded in strangling Joseph to death with one hand.
