Justice Battalion

The Justice Battalion was a harsh "superhero" team formed after the original Justice League of America heroes left the public eye.
In the Battalion's battle with (or more accurately, savage assault upon) the Parasite in Kansas, the desperate villain ripped Captain Atom open, creating an explosion of radioactive energy that slew most of the Battalion (except for Magog and Alloy). The radiation also rendered Kansas and parts of nearby states a dead, radioactive wasteland, killing about a million people. It was these events that led to Superman's return to the world, and the end of the Justice Battalion's era.
