Lazarus (Sanctuary)

Lazarus was the code name for a pathogen that featured in the TV series Sanctuary.

History

Lazarus was developed by the scientists of the Cabalis Nocturnum who desired a genetically engineered disease pathogen that was capable of heightening as well as ultimately killing an Abnormal. Once created, the pathogen was deployed at Mount Logan in Canada where it infected numerous Abnormal communities resulting in them becoming paranoid as well as aggressive. The affects of the disease brought about numerous Human and Abnormal deaths as Lazarus heightened xenophobia among the Abnormals resulting in them attacking Human settlements. Despite the 20 Human deaths it caused, the deployment of Lazarus at Mount Logan through a missile based dispersal system was simply a dry test run designated Phase 1.

The ultimate aim of the Cabal was to deploy Lazarus in large quantites and infect the entire worlds population of Abnormals. Numerous Cabal weapon factory's such as those outside New York were producing the toxin in quantities sufficient for the task. The goal of the Cabal was to devastate the population of Abnormals in the world leaving only a few survivors allowing the organization to deploy its shock troops of Abnormal supersoldiers who were to be treated with an immunity from the untainted vampiric Source blood. The Cabals mission was being challeneged by the members of the U.S. Sanctuary base.

Background

The disease was capable of being deployed into a location through a missile dispersal system similar to those used by the military in their biological warfare projects. Released as a gas, the pathogen travelled far and infected any Abnormals that ere exposed to it though Humans were not harmed by the disease. Its effects were immediate resulting in the coughing of blood, breathing difficulties after which aggression was heightened. Abnormals who were infected became increasingly irrational and paranoid resulting in them attacking anyone near them; even those that were considered friends.

The pathogen was believed to have been non communicable which meant that the initial gas based bio-weapon was needed to infect an Abnormal. There was no natural cure for the disease but it was believed that the use of the original untained Source blood of the vampires was capable of being fashioned into a cure against its effects.
