Legion Flight Rings were devices that were created for use by the Legion of Super-Heroes. According to one account, it was created by the computer-mind of Brainiac 5 for use by his comrades and thus replaced their cumbersome flying-belts. (Adventure Comics v1 #329)

After the capture of Trident, the Justice League of America discovered him wearing a Flight Ring and learnt that underneath the mask was Karate Kid of the Legion of Super-Heroes. They uncovered that he along with six others had become displaced from their future timeline to the present day and were scattered around the world. (Justice League of America v2 #8)

After Earth-Man destroyed his ring, Brainiac 5 created a new Flight Ring for Superman that had added features for him with Garth Ranzz delivering it to the Man of Steel after he was returned to his time. (Action Comics v1 #864)

Overview

In appearance, the devices were ring-like devices worn on the finger of a user who simply needed to will it and the miniature technology gave them the power of flight. (Adventure Comics v1 #329)

Their rings were said to be self-repairing allowing them to fix any damage to their casing or programming. (Justice League of America v2 #10)

The rings were also capable of activating a force field to protect their user that were impenetrable. (Justice League of America v2 #10) New features could be added into the rings such as a cloaking setting that made the ring itself invisible whilst being worn and used. A new version included an emergency rip chord feature that allowed the ring to transport the wearer into the future for a single use so long as the user responded to the emergency summons. (Action Comics v1 #864)
