Major Baker
Major Baker was a British Army officer who met Major Roy Franklin and Captain Keith Mallory's group at the dock in Castelrosso. He was a very arrogant man, and looked down his nose as the commandos. Many of the details concerning their mission to Navarone was withheld from Baker.
When the group caught laundry boy Nicolai listening outside their room in the Castelrosso officers' barracks, Baker was summoned and ordered to keep the man locked up for a week for fear of him leaking information to the Germans. Baker, who didn't believe Nicolai was a spy, refused, and demanded the laundry boy be released. Instead, Franklin ordered Private Spyros Pappadimos to shoot Nicolai, and also Major Baker if he interfered. A horrified Baker protested, and finally relented, agreeing to keep Nicolai locked up. He left, expressing his disgust with the commandos.
