Biography
Mavis Vermillion (メイビス・ヴァーミリオン Meibisu Vāmirion)
During her travel, she came upon Zeref once again where he revealed his true identity to her as the Black Wizard. At first, he expected her to reject him but Mavis still showed him kindness and friendship. She came to thank him for his help and stated that the spell he had taught her aided her in freeing Magnolia from the dark guild. Mavis came to note that she seemed to stop aging ever since she cast the spell. It was then that Zeref was then surprised at her using the spell and examined her where he sadly informed her that she was stricken now with the curse of Ankhseram. This was the same curse he had experienced that made him immortal and killed all those around him when he felt emotions. Horrified, Mavis ran away from him and believed he had lied to her and could not believe he would act so cruel. Upon returning to the guild, she came to learn that Yuri's wife Rita was giving birth in Fairy Tail's home. Thus, Mavis attended the event where she was named godmother of the newborn boy with Rita asking Vermillion to name the child. Mavis then decided to name him Makarov after a brave heroic character she read in a book back on her home island long ago. Everyone rejoiced but it was then that Rita died suddenly and unexpectedly with the guild mourning her death as Yuri was left distraught. None knew that it was the beginning of Mavis's curse of Ankhseram manifesting where she left in terror from the guild house. She left for the forests where the curse caused a wave of dark magic that killed the animals and plants around her as her emotions led to her falling into despair. After that day, she decided to remain alone and left Fairy Tail with none knowing where the guild master had gone. In the year that followed, she wanted an end to the curse and even stopped eating but its magic kept her alive even though she had nothing to sustain her for 6 months. It was then that Zeref came upon her again where Mavis felt nothing at despair at her life and simply wanted to die to be freed from the curse. However, the Black Wizard revealed that no ordinary means was capable of killing them and that he had spent his time creating the Etherious demons, E.N.D. and the Alvarez Empire as part of his efforts at finding a means to die. During this time, he stated that he took no amusement in killing but at the same time spoke about getting amusement of the coming trials he would bring to the world. Mavis noted these contradictions and came to realise that years of being trapped as an immortal had affected Zeref's mind. This caused him to fall into despair but Mavis stated that she would never leave him as they shared a similar pain from the curse. The moment together blossomed into love as the two kissed but the feelings Zeref felt resulted in the curse striking down Mavis leaving her body lifeless. Unknown to him, her body was deceased but her magic and her soul still existed. Zeref then took her body back to the Fairy Tail guild and left the corpse by the doorstep as he departed with Precht in desperation attempting to find a means of saving his friend.
Gaebolg took Vermillion's body into the lowest levels of the guild house and kept her condition a secret. He performed a lengthy period of study using the resources he had at his disposal as acting guild master. Ultimately, he concluded that Mavis was stricken with the curse of Ankhseram and had been inadvertently responsible for Rita's death. He kept performing various revival spells to bring Mavis to life but none of these worked. Precht then informed the guild that Mavis had passed away and hid the truth about her. However, an unexpected development came as a result of Vermillion's body and the magics it was treated with over this time. This had resulted in it becoming a wellspring of endless magic with it becoming known as Eternal Magic: Fairy Heart (永久魔法 妖精の心臓フェアリーハート Towa Mahō: Fearī Hāto). Centred around Mavis's body that was contained in crystal, the heart also came to be known as Lumen Histoire (光の神話ルーメン・イストワール Rūmen Isutowāru) that became a priceless treasure of the Fairy Tail guild and its closest guarded secret. Meanwhile, Precht had a fake grave set up for Mavis on Tenrou Island to hide the truth about Fairy Heart whilst Vermillion's spirit came to still operate in the world.

Personality and attributes
She came to be known by the epithet of the Fairy Tactician (妖精軍師 Yōsei Gunshi).
Mavis came to be noted for her keen strategic mind that allowed her to calculate actions of an enemy and develop countermeasures.
Unknown to Mavis, after her body seemingly dead that she was pregnant with Zeref's child during their brief time together. She was not aware of this at the time and only Precht learnt the truth after he had her placed within the Lacrima. The child was delivered by him where he had incredibly magic power from birth with his hair along with features resembling his mother. The child was abandoned in the mountains by Precht but his powers allowed him to survive. He came to inadvertently encounter his father Zeref who was unaware of their familial bond and he named the child August (オーガスト Ōgasuto) after the time he spent with Mavis. August was aware of his parents though they did not realise that they had a child together with him never knowing the love of his father or mother.
Powers and abilities
Vermillion had access to magic power and she taught herself Illusion Magic (幻影魔法, Genei Mahō) when she was the only survivor on Tenrou Island. Her skill led to her illusions appearing incredibly life-like and able to fool most people.
As a result of using a dark magic spell, she came to be afflicted with the curse of Anhkseram that made her immortal. Initially, this appeared as if she could not age but in time manifested to the true nature of the curse of contradiction. It led to it killing a single person during a moment of happiness before fully radiating from her body during times of strong emotion with it killing anything living around her including people, animals and plants. The power of the curse meant that she could not die and she was still able to function even when she stopped eating for 6 months. When Zeref fell in love with her, his own curse ended up killing Mavis but her magic and her soul still existed within the body thus allowing her to take on a ghostly form.
