Biography
Prometheus Black was a male human scientist born in the modern age on Earth where by adulthood he came to be a brilliant biochemist. He had an intense hatred of Isaac Sumdac and was jealous of the older scientist's success. Disliking how machines did everything, Black sought to prove humanity's superiority over machines by biochemically enhancing people. He had a contract with the Detroit city government to create super-soldier police officers, and received his funding covertly through Sumdac Systems chairman Porter C. Powell, presumably as part of Powell's bid to take Sumdac Systems into the weapons development business.
His first test subject, Cyrus "The Colossus" Rhodes, went insane during a wrestling match with Bumblebee however, and caused lots of destruction. He was beaten by the Autobots. An angry Captain Fanzone terminated Black's contract. Blaming the Autobots, Black took a sample of Bumblebee's Cybertronian transmission fluid and began experimenting with it. From it he hoped to combine it with his experimental steroids to create a new super-soldier serum.
However the resulting formula was a failure, proving too corrosive for him to use. Not long afterward, Powell, disappointed with Colossus Rhodes' performance against the Autobots, cut off Black's funding. An enraged Black trashed his lab and accidentally spilled the failed formula on himself, but instead of melting him it turned him into a green slime creature whose touch burned and corroded anything. He adopted the name "Meltdown," and, remembering his hatred of Isaac Sumdac, attempted to take revenge on his rival. He was stopped by the Autobots and held prisoner within a forcefield.
Some time later, he escaped and with Colossus Rhodes' help set up a new lab on an island in the middle of Lake Erie - the same island where Prowl and Bulkhead had put the Dinobots. With his burning touch, Meltdown was able to bend the Dinobots to his will. He sent them to abduct Sumdac's daughter Sari, to bring her to the island so he could continue his experiments using her.
Prowl and Bulkhead, along with Captain Fanzone, came looking for her, and were able to defeat Meltdown's mutant henchmen. Meltdown himself was defeated after they persuaded the Dinobots to rebel against him, and Fanzone captured the evil scientist using one of his own spare "melt-proof" suits.
Later, he was freed from prison by the Dinobots who were under the control of BlackArachnia, who wanted Meltdown to help her rid herself of her organic half. Instead, Meltdown plotted to use his scientific machinery to rid her of her machine half, turning her fully organic and making her into a fully-transforming organic creature. However Optimus Prime, with help from Grimlock, was able to defeat Meltdown's henchmen and stop him, and the evil scientist accidentally got a dose of his own machine's effects, causing him to melt fully into a puddle of glop.
However after everyone left, the puddle slowly began reforming into Meltdown again, so he will undoubtedly return.
Overview
Personality and attributes
He was noted for having a disdain for machines.
Following his encounter with Cybertronians, he came to be fascinated at the concept of a biological being that could transform into another form. Thus, his objective was creating a person capable of taking on any shape or form at will.
Black had a great deal of envy and jealously towards Isaac Sumdac. He came to believe Sumdac to had been a fraud. Meanwhile, Prometheus thought of himself to be smarter, better-looking, and more educated than him. Despite that, he found that Sumdac had achieved great successes whilst Black had nothing with him attributing Isaac's fortune as being the result of luck. Meltdown saw Sumdac as the bane of his existence and nothing more than a simpering fool unworthy to lick the mud off the heels of his platform shoes.
Powers and abilities
Originally, Prometheus Black was an ordinary human being with no inherent powers. By adulthood though, he came to be a scientist who specialised in bio-engineering.
Black came to experiment with a fluid that leaked from Bumblebee which he used to mutate himself. As Meltdown, he could secrete an acidic liquid that melted anything he touched, and which could be fired in jets from his palms. Unable to 'turn off' his powers, Black constantly secreted acid, and must wear protective suits that allowed him to walk about and manipulate objects without melting them.
