History

The Merlin Stones were magical gems that were originally the property of the ancient magician Merlin. (Fantastic Four v1 #5)

During the 17th century, these stones were owned for a time by the pirate captain Red Lucy Keough who was an ancestor of the Scarlet Witch. However, Keough did not desire them and left them in the hands of her crew.

In the modern age, Doctor Doom sought the power of the Merlin Stones that were lost by this time. He captured the Fantastic Four and sent them into the past into the era of the pirate Blackbeard in order to recover a treasure chest holding the stones. However, the superheroes took out the stones and simply brought back an empty treasure chest thus thwarting the villain. (Fantastic Four v1 #5)
