History

Methuselah (Japanese: メトセラ, Hepburn: Metosera) were a human derived species that had the need to feast on blood. These vampiric beings were created through infection by the Kudlak Bacillus virus. The Bacillus was in turn created by the ancient Crusnik with it to be used as a food source. Billions of years ago, the Crusnik and the Kudlak Bacillus crashed on Mars where they remained for countless years. In the year 2122, this changed when the Red Mars Project was launched by Earth with the hope of colonizing the planet. During the mission, the colonizers discovered several technologically advanced corpses that were similar to humans. During study, Seth Nightlord discovered the unique Kudlak Bacillus which they learnt could infect human blood and greatly extend the life of the host. However, the virus also destroyed the host's red blood cells with Seth Nightlord naming it the Bacillus Kudlak after human legend of vampires. In addition, they had discovered Crusnik Baccilus which unlike the Kudlak could not be replicated. After an incident, Cain Knightlord were mortally wounded along with another ordinary colonizer with Seth using the Crusnik Bacillus in an attempt to heal them. Both died but Cain was resurrected by the Crusnik Bacillus which not only healed him but increased his vitals and lifespan. It was then decided to implant the Crusnik Bacillus in the colonizers all of whom died as they were not compatible with it. As such, the Crusnik Bacillus was sealed away but it was deemed that the Kudlak Bacillus was compatible with the colonizers. After being cultured, the colonizers were implanted with the Kudlak Bacillus and gained stronger than human abilities from it. However, in-fighting erupted amongst the colonizers over control of the Bacillus and the advanced alien Ark that had crashed on Mars long ago with this damaging the means to return to Earth or communicate back home. In 2124, Armageddon erupted on Earth with various factions fighting against one another over control of the Bacillus and the Ark. The Mars colonizers who had now become Methuselah had managed to scavenge the Ark for technology to help construct a craft to return to Earth.

Around this time, August Vradica took the Methuselah to save them from persecution and formed a nation that was centered at their capital of Byzantium. This saw the creation of the New Human Empire or Methuselah Empire or the Empire of the True Race that continued to rule for the next 800 years.

After eighty years, the colonizers (now Methuselah) were able to rebuild a spaceship and return to Earth. The colonizers (or "returners") were able to return to Earth, only to find the planet in a devastated state, with only Europe being one of the few continents left standing (as it was affected by biological weapons). The returners vowed to help the people on Earth. Some time later, possibly due to Earth's closer proximity to the Sun, the Kudlak Bacillus in their blood caused the symptoms of vampirism. Many humans were killed by the returners, even against their will, and conflict soon broke out between the returners and people on Earth. Cain, Abel and Seth joined the war and took the side of the "returners," while Lilith also infused herself to help the humans. With the help of Lilith, the humans were able to defeat the Methuselah returners. The Methuselah were driven to Eastern Europe, while humans lived in Western Europe. The Methuselah returners who fought for the humans or were unable to flee to Eastern Europe stayed in Western Europe. Thus the Methuselah of the series mainly live in The New Human Empire, while some Methuselah remain in the Ghetto of The Kingdom of Albion.

At some point, a terrorist cell of vampires formed a group called the Fleurs du Mal who were wanted for numerous murders and bombings.

Ten years ago, the Count Four conglomerate that quickly gained strength wherethey destroyed and absorbed criminal organizations of Terran and other Methuselah clans. Eventually, they gained control of the Four-City Alliance underworld.

Overview

Biology

They were also referred to as the Long-Lived Race (長生種, Chōsei-shu) on account of their long lifespans.

Members of the Long-Lived Race were shown to be stronger, faster and more powerful than a Terran. This allowed them to easily avoid ordinary gunfire and overpower a human. In addition, they gained a number of individual powers. When the Kudlak Bacillus entered the muscles of their hosts allowing them to alter their shape. Typically, they were shown to manifest a form of blade that emerged from limbs such as arms, claws, create multiple blades from their back or even sharp prehensile hair. Other Methuselah displayed more exotic powers such as he ability to manipulate ice or fire.

The reaction speed of a Methuselah was ten times faster than a Terran.

The ultimate power of a Methuselah was to hyperactivate their nervous system in order to increase their speed. However, this burned up their body's energy which was why they could not use this ability for long periods of time.

A wound like a stab to the heart was not instant death for a Methuselah.

Their kind could only grow in one of two ways; either from being born from a Methuselah parent or from a human being infected with the Kudlak bacillus.

One of few weak points a Methuselah had was the cervical vertebrae. Even their ageless and almost immortal vitality could not survive such an attack.

It was known that the Methuselah came to form a number of subspecies that included:

  • Efreet :
  • Fairies :

Society

Some considered themselves to be the highest beings on Earth and that mankind was akin to being cattle. They believed that they ruled by the divine right of kings.

Most vampires valued life as much as humans did and it was said that by nature they were not killers. They were said to only hunt food in order to survive. Their incredibly long lifespans meant that a funeral was a morose affair that was packed with hundreds of mourners who had come to know the deceased over many decades. Any Methuselah's death was seen as being a great tragedy.

The Methuselah were responsible for forming a government for themselves with this being known as the New Human Empire / Tsala Methsaluth (真人類帝国 / ツァラ・メトセルート) (,Shin jinrui teikoku' / ,tsuara metoserūto'). It came to be the largest nation on Earth.

A single Methuselah was said to equal the strength of an entire Terran military unit. Meanwhile, a band of Methuselah went all-out in this fiasco, it would result in nothing short of urban warfare.

Technology

The New Human Empire possessed numerous lost technologies that contributed to an overall strength said to exceed that of the Vatican.

They had developed alternative means at quenching their thirst for blood that did not require them to forcibly feed on Terrans.
