Michael Morbius

In his childhood, he was close friends with Emil Nikos and his sister Elizabeth Nikos with the three spending much time together over the years. Unknown to Michael, Elizabeth had a crush on him and she eventually confessed her feelings when they were older though Morbius turned her down as he only saw her as a sister. (Morbius v1 #4)

During college, he met Max Modell with the two striking a friendship. (Amazing Spider-Man v1 #679.1)

At one point, he was involved in a research project that looked to cellular regeneration on a molecular level where he came to work alongside [Mister Hyde (Marvel)|Calvin Zabo]]. (Morbius: Bond of Blood v1 #1) He was later awarded the Nobel Prize with Martine accompanying him as he accepted it. (Fear v1 #25) Afterwards, he was invited to a hidden laboratory operated by Dr. Zabo where he bragged of being free of oversight and able to conduct un-regulated research. (Morbius: Bond of Blood v1 #1)

In the aftermath, he felt responsible for the devastation caused by the Rose's attack on Brownsville. He fell into a period of brooding until Becky showed that Morbius was betraying the people by simply sitting aside. Thus, he decided to strike at the people who were hurting the community where he cost the developers billions of dollars. Within six months, the development that threatened to displace the community was shuttered. The reconstruction efforts of the lost homes was completed by the city with the people able to return. However, the developers pulling away meant that any effort at improving the quality of life being abandoned. Morbius was overcome with guilt as he felt responsible for bringing hardship to the community so he decided to leave and he began to travel around. (Morbius v1 #3)

In an effort to cure himself, he began raiding criminal operations in order to gather supplies he needed to try a cure for himself. This saw him targeting the Melter and he wounded the supervillain after which he created the serum. It seemingly worked on him but the effects were shown to be temporary. (Morbius v1 #1) Afterwards, Morbius found himself attacked by the Melter who was being assisted by a woman later revealed to be Elizabeth Nikos who was the sister of his old friend Emil. (Morbius v1 #2) After escaping, his body began to experience mutations as a result of the new serum he had used on himself. He was only able to stop this temporarily with the help of Spider-Man who provided his blood that provided a curative effect. (Morbius v1 #3)

Desperately searching for a cure for Christos Nikos, Morbius came to learn that his old research colleague Calvin Zabo had escaped from Ravencroft. He then went to one of Zabo's old research laboratories to confront the man for his formula that could cure Nikos of his viral platelet syndrome. Zabo agreed but the condition that Morbius recover his notes that would allow him to re-create the formula to make him Mister Hydra once more. Reluctantly, Michael agreed to do so where he recovered the notes and retrieved the cure. He then went to administer it to Christos and told the boy the truth that he was responsible for his fathers death. Nikos forgave his 'uncle' Morbius but passed away as the serum was not a true cure. An enraged Morbius then confronted Zabo who became Mister Hydra where he confided that he had made a mock cure to get Michael to retrieve his notes. (Morbius: Bond of Blood v1 #1)

After Michael's disease took a new course and his hunger started to come faster than before, he went to the Empire State University looking for Dr. Andrea Janson but was stopped by Spider-Man, though he did managed to bite some blood off of him to calm his hunger before escaping. (Spider-Man v1 #77) Morbius arrived at Dr. Andrea's office in the science building of the Empire State University and explained to her how the feedings satiated his hunger for shorter periods of time. Spider-Man arrived once again and didn't believe Morbius, claiming that he liked being a living vampire, the two fought and Morbius was about to kill the hero but was stopped by Mary Jane Watson who told him that he should show that he was willing to fight the hunger, Andrea claimed that she would help him and brought him a package of blood so that he didn't have to kill which Michael accepted. (Spider-Man v1 #78) In reality, Andrea was working for scientist and Hydra agent; Dr. Loxias Crown who kidnapped Morbius to study him. (Spider-Man v1 #79) Spider-Man came to his rescue but when he freed Morbius he attacked Crown. As they grappled the island began to explode. In the resulting explosion, Morbius drained his blood. Personality and attributes

Emil had a younger blonde haired sister named Elizabeth Nikos. (Morbius v1 #2) Since childhood, Michael had spent time with Emil and Liza who remained close friends with him. When they were older, Liza confessed her love for Michael and wanted to be in a relationship with him. However, he turned her down as he stated that he always saw her as a dear friend and as a sister. (Morbius v1 #4) He later came to be involved with a woman named Martine with the two being in love with each other. (Amazing Spider-Man v1 #102)

Another person Michael cared for was Emil's son who was the 14 years old Christos Nikos. The child suffered from viral platelet syndrome and did not have long to live. Morbius was desperately looking for a cure for the boy though ultimately failed and he passed away. (Morbius: Bond of Blood v1 #1)
