Biography
Max Modell
During his time at college, he met Michael Morbius with the two striking a friendship. (Amazing Spider-Man v1 #679.1) He was friends with Marla Madison-Jameson and when he needed a pilot for his new shuttle she put him in touch with her stepson John Jameson. (Amazing Spider-Man v1 #648) At some point, he got involved with a man named Hector with the two entering into a relationship. His partner provided him with a unique watch that he always wore with him. (Amazing Spider-Man v1 #678)
Modell later oversaw the launch of the new Vertex Shuttle at the Andru Air Force Base. He called in Peter Parker to examine the shuttles new experimental engines. (Amazing Spider-Man v1 #652)
He was contacted by the new Hobgoblin who had taken Peter Parker hostage and wanted Modell to call Spider-Man so that the could recover a mysterious briefcase of great importance. Unable to tell anyone, Max decided to open Parker's black box for clues on how to contact Spider-Man where he encountered the various gadgets Peter had made for the Wall-Crawler. He then discovered the briefcase and went to the rendezvous spot to meet with the Kingpin to exchange the item for Parker's life. The meeting was disrupted by the arrival of the original Hobgoblin who battled the new one. This provided an opportunity for Modell to help Parker to escape where they managed to get away with the item in the briefcase that was the Goblin Key. (Amazing Spider-Man v1 #696) The pair discovered the Goblin's Workshop with Peter managing to shutdown its self-destruct system whilst Max sought for anything that was useful. Peter stated he would dress up as Spider-Man to distract the Hobgoblin whilst Max set up a self-destruct sequence to destroy Osborn's secret lair. Max and Peter escaped with the workshop destroyed allowing Max to go and save Norah Winters who was being targeted by the older Hobgoblin. With the workshop destroyed, the two Hobgoblins turned each other thus ending the threat they posed to Spider-Man. Prior to his phone running out of power, Max decided to fire Tiberius Stone after learning that his employee was working for the Kingpin. (Amazing Spider-Man v1 #697)
Eventually, Peter Parker looked to mend the relationship between himself and Modell with the two being friends once again. During this time, Peter had offered to make Max and Hector the heads of Parker Industries West Coast branch that was going to be called the 'Parker Institute of Technology'. By this point, he had decided to marry his long-term partner Hector with the two having a wedding. The pair invited their close friends and family to attend with Parker arriving for the event. In that time, he met Parker and Jaffrey with Peter revealing that he had changed the name of the West Coast centre with it now being renamed as Horizon University which was a gift to the married couple. The celebration afterwards was then interrupted by an attack from the Zodiac who was looking to abduct Peter Parker. (Amazing Spider-Man V4 #1)

Television
- In Spider-Man, Max Modell appeared in the animated television series where he was voiced by actor Fred Tatasciore. He was a prominent member of the scientific community who headed an academy for gifted intellects known as Horizon High. The school sought the most brilliant minds that had a gift for innovation and developing new technologies to change the world. At some point, Adrian Toomes was working for him but he was involved with stealing technology leading to him being fired. Spencer Smythe was also a colleague of his but a falling out led to an enmity between the pair. Horizon High student Harry Osborn told Max Modell about Peter Parker and attempted to convince him to enrol his friend into Horizon High. During a test to fill the last vacancy, Modell was attacked and kidnapped by the Vulture but he was saved by the mysterious Spider-Man.
