Biography

Mordant was a monocle-wearing pig creature who worked for Rita Repulsa and Lord Zedd. When Ivan Ooze took over and imprisoned Rita and Zedd within a snow globe, Mordant and Goldar opted to serve him in lieu of sharing their fate.

Mordant first appeared as an ally to Rita Repulsa and Lord Zedd during the events leading up to their alliance with Ivan Ooze. Acting as a sycophantic lackey, he accompanied Goldar in assisting his masters, often offering commentary and encouragement while the others set their schemes into motion. Mordant rarely took the forefront in direct combat, instead operating as a background supporter, moving alongside the other villains and lending his voice to the plotting of their conquests. His presence cemented him as part of the inner circle of the villains’ hierarchy, often acting as a counterpart to Goldar in providing backup to Rita and Zedd’s ambitions. When Ivan Ooze was released from his imprisonment, Mordant joined Rita, Zedd, and Goldar in attempting to manipulate the ancient villain into cooperating with their plans. During the proceedings, Mordant stood with his allies in celebrating Ooze’s arrival and offering his loyalty to the new power in their ranks. He participated in the council where the villains discussed how to exploit Ooze’s abilities to overwhelm the Power Rangers and conquer the planet. Though not an instigator of the plots himself, Mordant remained actively present in the villainous conclave, speaking at times to emphasize his allegiance and his enthusiasm for their shared domination.

As Ivan Ooze gained power and shifted his schemes toward his own agenda, Mordant continued to accompany Goldar, positioning himself as one of Ooze’s lieutenants. He could be seen alongside his companion as they monitored the Rangers’ struggles, offered Ooze support, and celebrated his victories. Mordant provided commentary, comic relief, and occasional minor assistance during these moments, but he was largely relegated to the role of a hanger-on, ensuring he remained close to whoever held power. Ultimately, his involvement in the conflict remained tied to his association with Goldar and the other villains rather than any decisive action of his own.

Overview

Personality and attributes

In appearance, Mordant was a stout, pig-like humanoid with grayish skin, large tusks protruding from his mouth, and drooping ears that gave him a porcine visage. His body was rotund and clad in brownish leather-like armor adorned with a belt, straps, and patches of metallic plating, suggesting a cobbled-together warrior’s attire more ceremonial than functional. His posture was hunched, his movements cumbersome, and his pig-faced snout and tusks gave him a grotesque but somewhat comical appearance, fitting his role as a secondary villain and sycophantic companion.

Mordant’s personality was sycophantic, cowardly, and comical. He frequently aligned himself with whoever held authority, whether Rita, Zedd, or Ivan Ooze, shifting his allegiance with ease to maintain his own survival and relevance. He demonstrated little initiative of his own, preferring instead to follow orders and echo the sentiments of those in power. At times, he served as comic relief, providing humorous commentary or bumbling asides in contrast to the more serious threats posed by his masters. Despite his cowardice and lack of initiative, Mordant was enthusiastic in his support of villainous schemes, always eager to side with whichever overlord promised victory. He exhibited a sycophantic and deferential nature, constantly seeking favor from more powerful figures like Rita, Zedd, or Ivan Ooze. His interactions often involved flattery and exaggerated displays of loyalty, reinforcing his position in the villain hierarchy without requiring initiative or independent decision-making.

He was also showed a tendency toward comedic cowardice, frequently reacting with exaggerated fear when confronted with danger. Despite this, he remained persistent in serving his masters, demonstrating a mix of timidity and dutifulness. His personality blended humor with servility, providing both a functional support role in schemes and a source of levity in tense situations.

Powers and abilities

As a humanoid monster allied with Rita and Zedd, Mordant possessed the physical durability typical of such creatures, with a bulky body capable of surviving conditions that ordinary humans could not. However, unlike Goldar or other lieutenants, Mordant did not demonstrate notable combat ability, and his physiology seemed more suited to intimidation and servile tasks than battle. His strength was modest compared to other warriors, and his primary contribution came from his loyalty and presence rather than feats of power. This made him more of a background enforcer and sycophant than a frontline combatant in the villains’ hierarchy.

Notes

  • Mordant only appears in Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie. In an early screenplay he is identified as Goldar's cousin and described as being a small, furry creature. However in the completed film he is a pig-like alien, and all referances to him being related to Goldar are lost.
