Biography
Morrigan was a female human born as one of the daughters of Flemeth where she lived in the lands of Thedas. She was one of many daughters born by the legendary Witch of the Wilds over the centuries. Morrigan was raised by her mother in isolation from civilisation where Flemeth instilled in her a deep distrust in humanity. This saw her being forbidden from venturing out from their home and into settlements leading to Morrigan seeking solace in nature and the animals of the Korcari Wilds using her shapeshifting powers. One day when she was a child, she spied upon a travelling noblewoman in her carriage and was enthralled by her wealth and beauty. Morrigan came to steal a lavish hand mirror from the noblewoman's carriage and took it with her as a treasured bauble as she returned back to the Korcari Wilds. Her mother Flemeth came to find out about her daughters thievery and that she broke her edict of not venturing out from their home with Morrigan having risk discovery for a simple bauble. This caused her to smash the hand mirror in order to teach Morrigan a lesson who was heartbroken over its destruction with the experience ending up teaching her that love and beauty were fleeting. Morrigan would sometimes use her exploration of civilization to learn about social etiquette but was inundated by the subject and eventually lost interest. After giving up on trying to understand human society, Morrigan returned to the Wilds and swore to Flemeth that she was never leaving again.
When she reached a sufficient age, Morrigan would occasionally assist Flemeth in eliminating threats to them. If templars hunted the pair, Morrigan would often play the part of the innocent girl in fear for her life, while in reality leading the men to her mother, and thus to their doom.
Morrigan first appears to confront the Grey Wardens when they were searching for their old treaties with the nations of Thedas in the Korcari Wilds, and revealed that they have been taken by her mother Flemeth for safekeeping. Morrigan then joins the Warden's party following the battle at Ostagar where Flemeth have saved the surviving Grey Wardens of Ferelden from the Darkspawn hordes. Morrigan's personal quest involves a search for Flemeth's Grimoire, a book of spells and secrets from which Morrigan intends to learn. She later tasks the Warden with slaying Flemeth, who is alleged a demonic abomination who gives birth to a daughter and then, as she nears death, takes over the body of her offspring. This cycle repeats, and thus Flemeth lives on as if immortal. Upon the completion of the quest, where the player has the choice to either slay Flemeth in combat or let Flemeth go and lie to Morrigan, Morrigan is appreciative of their efforts and may even offer the player to 'join her in her tent'.
She reveals that a Grey Warden need not die in order to slay the Archdemon as long as the Warden, Alistair, or Loghain if he has been recruited as a Warden, impregnates Morrigan with a child, who will then carry the soul of the Old God upon the Archdemon's death and thus spare the life of the Grey Warden who dealt the final death blow.
One year after the Battle of Denerim, Morrigan was spotted in Ferelden, prompting The Warden-Commander to seek her out. After a series of adventures, The Warden-Commander corners Morrigan in the Dragonbone Wastes, as she is about to step through a magical portal. She claims that great change is coming to the world and it is thus necessary for her to leave Ferelden to prepare for this change. Morrigan issues a stern warning that it is Flemeth who poses the true threat to Thedas and that The Warden-Commander should beware her.
Morrigan came to serves as an advisor to Empress Celene, arriving in the Orlesian court around 9:38 Dragon. She quickly insinuated herself into the court, gaining the favor of the empress who had long sought a source of magical knowledge untouched by religious dogma. However, rumors abound that Morrigan is a sinister influence on the throne, teaching the empress forbidden, dark arts.
Overview
Personality and attributes
In appearance, Morrigan was a svelte, exotic-looking young woman with long black hair and large eyes whose body was relatively thin and not strong. Her reputation in the Korcari Wilds region led to her being regarded as one of the Witches of the Wild.
As a child, she came to learn from her mother's harsh lessons that love and beauty were fleeting and meaningless. Instead, they found that only survival and power were important and sensible things to seek out.
It was said that her critical eye was not reserved solely for others.
Flemeth's harsh lessons has engendered in Morrigan a self-serving attitude. She can be callous to those she has little respect for and will encourage the Warden to acquire power even if it comes at the expense of others. Although her agenda remains a mystery, she has a fascination with ancient magic and power and also sympathizes with fellow Apostates considered to be Maleficars.
Although Morrigan was adept at using her wiles to manipulate people, due to her isolated upbringing she is unfamiliar with some of the nuances of human interactions
Morrigan was shown to have held a simple fondness for jewellery and was very particular of her appearance.
She later came to have a son that she named Kieran.
Whether the dark-haired sorceress seeks to influence the Imperial throne, or harbors more sinister motives, no-one knows for certain. This Witch of the Wilds arrived in Orlais rather suddenly three years ago as the newly-appointed “arcane advisor” to Empress Celene. In this role, Morrigan presents a source of information unfiltered by religious dogma, and satisfies Celene’s life-long curiosity about magic. However, whispers carry concern of Morrigan having Celene wrapped around her finger, teaching the Empress forbidden, dark arts in secret.
