Nanomeds were a type of nanotechnology that featured in the Hulk movie.

Background

Nanomods were microscopic molecular machines that were created by a civilian research lab in the U.S. They were the creation of Bruce Krensler and Betty Ross who experimented in making a potent tool for healing. This form of nanotechnology was created so that it could be injested within a host organism. Once inside, a burst of Gamma radiation was tasked with activating the machines which were tasked with repairing damaged cells within the organism.

However, the technology proved to be almost impossible to control and tests on animals such as frogs showed that the host organism often exploded once the nanomeds targeted the damaged cells to repair. Military contractor Atheon sought to acquire the nanotechnology for use by th U.S. military but was refused by the two lead scientists. However, in desperation to get the technology to work, the Nanomeds and Gamma generator was accidently activated and in order to save a technician's life, Bruce Kensler went before the machine and was thus exposed to the nanomeds and a lethal dose of Gamma radiation.

Due to his genetically engineered nature which was unknown to him at the time and to others, Kensler survived with the nanomeds and radiation creating a second altered persona that became known as the Hulk. His father David Banner attempted to recreate the process but his change was different and he became capable of absorbing the characteristics of objects he touched.
