Biography

Origin

Nelliel Tu Odelschwanck.

Nelliel Tu Odelschwanck (Japanese: ネリエル・トゥ・オーデルシュヴァンク, Hepburn: Nerieru Tu Ōderushuvanku?) was a female Arrancar that was a more evolved Hollow that resided in the dimension of Hueco Mundo. At some point, she came to join the ranks of the Espada where she served under Sōsuke Aizen and her strength led to her being considered the 3rd among their ranks. During that time, she was constantly challenged by the Espada Nnoitra Gilga who believed that males were stronger than females. At one point, Nnoitra was responsible for laying waste to an entire colony of Arrancar with Nelliel asking him why he performed such an act as they received no such order to eliminate them. However, Nnoitra replied that he was never ordered not to kill the colony though Nelliel reminded that Lord Aizen had commanded them to only seek out Vasto Lorde-class Hollows. Thus, Nnoitra murdering entire colonies stood against the orders that were given to them. Despite that, the Espada claimed that not all Arrancar were loyal to Aizen and that any resistance indicated that they were rebels that needed to be eliminated which ultimately benefited their master. Furthermore, he reasoned that if they died so easily then they were not Vasto Lorde and that he was simply culling their ranks until they found their targets. As such, he claimed that was following the orders and instead turned the argument back on her as he believed she had become uptight over weak Hollows. Nelliel suggested that he should think before he speaks, as they themselves were once Hollows just like those he killed; it was their own good fortune that they evolved beyond that, nothing more. Nnoitra taunts her to attack if she felt she could beat him if it made her mad. She plainly responded that she was shocked as even becoming an Arrancar, Nnoitra was nothing more than a child. Nnoitra questioned her comment, but was attacked and seemingly knocked unconscious. When he woke up, he saw her sitting near him reading a book while a dead Hollow lies nearby. When he asks her why she helped him, Nelliel simply tells him that she did not 'help him', she simply prevented the Espada from losing a member by putting an end to his suicidal behavior. Nnoitra explained that he could not stand her and she would obviously know that, asking why she keeps following him around. She simply stared at him and stated that it's because he was weaker than her.

Sometime later, Nnoitra continued to kill Arrancar and Hollow alike, determining they were unfortunate for facing him. Nelliel noted to him that it was an Arrancar he just killed to which he responded he knew that and wanted to state as a fact something he would only explain once. Something he wanted her to know was that if she insisted on continually following him around, then no matter who stood in his path, he would not be benevolent or merciful. Sometime later, he challenges her to a fight to which Nelliel explains once again that she would not draw her blade against the likes of him. Stating that he will not draw her into his demented world, Nnoitra told her that she was over thinking as the only reason they needed to draw their blades against each other was for the simple sake of drawing their blades. Nelliel noted that she did not understand that reasoning. She then asked what drove his blood lust. Nnoitra simply stated that gasping for his final breath in the heat of battle; to have his entire being defined by that moment was his greatest desire. Nelliel questioned this philosophy, noting that it would be a temporary high. He agreed to the truth of that, but stated that nothing else could fill that void. He was given power and he would use it kill anyone standing in his way until he died on his feet, taking in his last breath.

During this time, Nnoitra would constantly challenge Nelliel to battle; each time she would easily defeat him. It was during one of these battle she went to leave and he told her that it was a battle to the finish. When she asked him if he wanted her to finish him off, she told him that she simply refuses and further told him to stop talking all big. She stated that there was a time when they ceased being Human, and became beasts. Now, as Arrancar they had regained their sense of reason. She explained to him that rational people, when going to battle need a reason to fight and he had none. Nnoitra screamed at her that he had a reason, he could not stand her. Nelliel detailed that it was not a reason, just an instinct, as he is a beast and she didn't recognize him as a warrior. Therefore she had no reason to bear the life of someone not a warrior. After Nelliel left, Nnoitra was approached by Tesra Lindocruz who offered him a hand. In response, he threw his Zanpakutō at him, hitting the structure behind the Arrancar. Nnoitra told him not to act friendly with him, and that just because he lost did not mean they were of the same level. When Tesra asked why he had to pick on Nelliel and no other Espada, Nnoitra explained that it was because he hated her, some female being able to outrank, be greater than a man on the battlefield; that was his reason.

Hueco Mundo

Nel and her companions encountered Ichigo Kurosaki's group and helped them as their guides in Hueco Mundo. At first, they were afraid of Soul Reapers as they saw them to be the enemies but Nel developed an attachment to Ichigo and started following him around after meeting him. As a result, when she encountered Nnoitora as he begins to torture Ichigo, Nel assumes her true form with her memories restored. Though considerably more mature than her child form, Nelliel retains her child-like voice and affection for Ichigo, as she comically hugs him without realizing that her strength is causing him personal injury. As she is about to defeat Nnoitora after assuming her released form, Nelliel reverts back to her child form and was knocked unconscious before she came to as a witness to Nnoitora's death.

Overview

Personality and attributes

In appearance, Nelliel Tu Odelschwanck originally was a female Arrancar who had hazel eyes where her true form was that of a tall, fully-grown curvaceous adult woman with a well-endowed figure that had long waving green hair. She had a scar and a crimson line that ran across her face with her also having pronounced lower canine teeth. In terms of clothing, her gown came to be torn into a skirt and top that was connected with a single strip across her abdomen. Similar to all Arrancar, she had a skull mask though hers differed slightly as it appeared sharper and less cartoonish with a pair of curved horns. She had a large tattoo of the number '3' that was located on her back which indicated her former ranking as the 3rd Espada.

Compared to the other Espadas, Nelliel was shown to have empathy for the last fortunate Hollows that remained to be feral monsters.

Nelliel had a sense of honor and respect for her opponents who she sees as warriors and only kills within reason. This ideology results with her being attacked by Nnoitora Gilga from behind as part of the Espada's revenge scheme with the help of Szayelaporro's device, managing to crack her mask and tossing her unconscious body out of Las Noches before enough of her spirit energy leaked out to shrink her into current form.

During her numerous fights with Nnoitra, Nelliel is relatively calm and silent when fighting, preferring to speak only when spoken to, a rather uncommon trait among most Arrancar. She enjoys reading, and often reads a book after her missions or after waiting for Nnoitra to wake up after their recent battle.

But as the resulting amnesia freed her of the sorrow that plagued her, Nel was able to live a carefree life with her two Fraccións bent on protecting her from the dangers of Hueco Mundo while making sure she does not remember.

Despite believing that Shinigami are evil, Nel develops an attachment to Ichigo and follows him into Las Noches. When she returns to her physical form, despite growing up physically, she retains her child-like affection over Ichigo, including bear-hugging him after attacking Nnoitra without realizing that Ichigo was losing consciousness. Even after her adult form was restored, she retained the child-like affection for Ichigo Kurosaki.

Powers and abilities

As an Arrancar, Nelliel Tu Odelschwanck was an evolved form of Hollow whose mask had been cracked allowing her to gain abilities similar to those of a Shinigami.

As a former Espada, Nelliel has a great deal of experience in fighting, showing hardly any effort in her advanced use of swordsmanship. Her body flows elegantly when engaging in combat, so finely tuned that she can stop her attacks at a moment's notice, and subsequently execute lethal attacks with absolute precision. She easily defeated Nnoitra, who is a highly proficient swordsman in his own right, several times.

After her battle with Nnoitra, Nel's mask was damaged causing her to revert into a child-like state with her suffering from amnesia. As such, the greater bulk of her powers were not accessible in this state though she retained certain abilities. This included a saliva that was shown to operate as a rather weak healing agent though one useful to repair injuries to a person. Nel could also swallow Cero attacks and fire them back at her opponent.

She was armed with a Zanpakutō (斬魄刀, Soul-Cutter Sword; Viz "Soul Slayer") with her being known as Gamuza (羚騎士 (ガミューサ), Gamyūsa; Spanish for "Chamois", Japanese for "Antelope Knight"; Viz "Capricorn Knight"). Its appearance was that of a sword with a green sheath, a light green hilt, and a tsuba that resembled a pair of crescent moons joined together at the back.

Much of her power was sealed away within her sword which she could unlock by using her Resurrección (帰刃 (レスレクシオン), Resurekushion; Spanish for "Resurrection", Japanese for "Returning Blade"). By uttering the command Declare (謳え, utae; Viz "Praise"), she could awaken her true power were her blade glowed as hazy smoke began to emanate from it. The glow then intensified into a huge burst of spiritual energy that covered the surrounding area. It was then that Nel emerged in a new form which was that of a brownish-green ibex-like centaur with a black horse tail. Her Hollow mask's horns became longer and more curved as they framed the side of her face. Her sword also transformed into a double-ended white lance thus giving her the appearance of a medieval knight or a jouster. One of her attacks in this form was called Lanzador Verde (翠の射槍 (ランサドール・ヴェルデ) Ransadōru Verude?, Spanish for "Green Lancer", kanji translates as "Green Javelin") in which she threw her lance directly at her opponent. The lance moves at high speed and rotated extremely fast where it drilled through anything it hit.
