Other World

The Other World is a dimension that features in Dragon Ball.

History

The Other World (Japanese: (Japanese: あの世よ, Hepburn: Anoyo) was another name for the afterlife. The souls of the dead go here to be judged by King Yemma, who decides whether they will go to paradise or to HFIL (Hell), depending on their actions in life. He may also elect to send the souls of warriors to train under one of the Kais. The Other World is populated by ogres who administrate various areas, and is (apparently) ruled by the Grand Kai.

According to Goku, time did not move much in the afterlife.

Most souls in the Other World appear as small wisps of smoke, but worthy or powerful beings may keep their bodies, only recognizable as dead by the halos suspended over their heads. No one can be destroyed again in the Other World, although they can be badly damaged for brief periods.

In other media

Television

• In Dragon Ball Z, Other World made appearances in the setting of the anime television series adaptation. An original anime only filler arc known as the Other World Saga appeared which occurred after the Cell Saga. Original characters introduced in the arc included a green skinned warrior named Pikkon. After peace in the Other World is returned, the four Kais find themselves in an argument and the West Kai suggests holding a Tournament to see who has the best fighter and Goku is informed by King Kai of the Other World Tournament that is to take place with the prize being a lesson from the Grand Kai himself. During the tournament, Goku defeats Caterpy, Arqua, Maraikoh and Pikkon defeats all three of his opponents including Olibu, until they reach the finals and face each other for the tournament victory. At first, both seem equal in strength, but then Goku transforms into a Super Saiyan and Pikkon starts fighting at his full power by removing his weighted clothing.
