Otto Hecht

Major Otto Hecht was an Austrian Wehrmacht Heer officer who served as the commandant of Stalag VII Z. He was an admirer of Professor Blake's and owned a copy of his book, Greek Art and Archeology. Rather than sending the Greek artifacts the P.O.W.s discovered back to Germany as instructed, Hecht instead sold them on the black market in Switzerland. Despite his corruption, he was a fair man and a strong dislike of Major Volkmann, the commanding officer of the island's Waffen-SS contingent. When the prisoners took over the camp with the aid of USO performers Charlie Dane and Dottie Del Mar, Blake gave a choice of committing suicide or aiding them in overthrowing the Nazis on the island. He opted for the latter, first helping Blake take over the Kriegsmarine's submarine refueling depot and then helping Zeno prevent Volkmann from having several Greek townspeople executed in revenge for the death of Lieutenant Braun.
