History

The Philosopher's Stone was an artifact that was tied to Lucifer. It was said that after his rebellion and subsequent fall from Heaven that the Creator shattered Lucifer's throne and cast his soul down to Earth. The stone was then created untold years ago when Lucifer was expelled from Heaven and forced to live as a mortal. Desiring his revenge, he used his vast powers to create the stone in order to tether his spirit to the Earth until he was able to exact his revenge upon mankind. Driven mad by this vulnerability, Lucifer used his remaining powers and immense rage to craft the Stone, intending it to serve as an anchor for his influence in the living world and a vessel for his eventual reincarnation. He utilized the artifact’s promises of eternal life and vast wealth to manipulate and corrupt powerful men throughout history, effectively turning them into 'carriers' who acted as his slaves. Ancient prophecies about the stone tell that he created it from anger using pieces left from his heavenly throne. In the centuries following its creation, it was held by many carriers, chief among them alchemists, who studied the stone at great detail, unaware of it's true power and purpose, seeking to understand it's abilities. It was coveted by all classes of society; the poor dreamed of wealth, and the rich dreamed of eternal life. Lucifer himself nurtured myths about the stone over the century by influencing the most important alchemists, scientists, and artists. In part, Lucifer kept the myths alive to ensure that the stone would always be sought, and never destroyed. Eventually, the stone came into possession of a group of alchemists and other wise men, who were manipulated into creating a doorway between the mortal world and the afterlife. They thought it would be a gift to all mankind, but they were secretly being betrayed and manipulated by Lucifer, who sought to use the gateway to cross over to the mortal world. One of the alchemists, Hermes Treismajice, realized what was happening and quickly tore the stone in two, splitting it's power in half. Taking one half, he sealed himself deep beneath Central Park, to await the day when the light carrier would return, the one powerful enough to fight Lucifer himself.

Overview

In appearance, the Philosopher's Stone was a split artifact that resembled an ancient, circular stone medallion etched with cryptic alchemical symbols and occult markings. When separated, each half functioned as a jagged, semi-circular relic that pulsed with a faint, unnatural light, serving as a tracking device that glowed more intensely when in close proximity to the 'roots of evil' or other dark entities. The stone's surface was weathered by centuries of use, yet it retained an ominous aura that reflected its origin as a fragment of Lucifer's shattered throne. When the two halves were finally reunited on a sacred pedestal, the artifact formed a complete, glowing disc that acted as a focal point for immense spectral energy, opening a gateway between the mortal world and the afterlife. As it channeled this power, the Stone emitted a brilliant, blinding radiance that signaled the potential for Lucifer’s soul to finally possess a human vessel.

Those who hold the Stone are known as Carriers. Under the Stone's influences, the Carrier becomes a conduit for Lucifer's essence and power; rendering them effectively immortal - they do not age nor do they need to eat - as their connection to the fallen archangel grows stronger.

In addition to eternal life, Carriers also develop the power of Spectral Vision - the ability to see markings and energies left by Lucifer and his creations by closing their eyes. This ability develops by absorbing the magick of burning tree roots corrupted by Lucifer's energies.
