Primrose

Primrose was a doe living in Efrafa, Primrose had originally been from Redstone, until she was captured by Efrafans and forced to come live in the totalitarian warren. Like nearly every Efrafan who wasn't a member of the Owsla, hated living under the cruel dictatorship of Woundwort. Unlike the others however, Primrose actually had a plan to escape. It was a desperate and implausible plan, but a plan nonetheless. She and her friend Blackavar planned to dig a tunnel from their burrow beyond the boundaries of the warren. They came up short and the opening of the tunnel was mere feet from an Owsla sentry. For the time being, Primrose and Blackavar abandoned the idea.

At the same time roughly, Hazel and Fiver showed up, hoping to persuade Woundwort to come to a peaceful agreement rather than a war. Unfortunately, Woundwort wasn't interested in negotiating with the outsiders, and thus they were forced to flee, but not before Hazel and Primrose had had time to talk and get to know one another, during which time they fell in love. Shortly thereafter, Hazel's friend Bigwig arrived, pretending to join the Efrafan Owsla for the purpose of helping Primrose and Blackavar escape. The tunnel plan was tried again, but failed when Vervain stumbled onto them and sounded the alarm, forcing them to fight their way through the Owsla and escape by force, which wasn't a problem for Bigwig.

After escaping from Efrafa, Primrose burned with a desire to return to her ancestral home. She and Hazel sought out Redstone, only to discover that since her absence, it had been stricken with disease and the sole survivor was the half-insane Broom. Her friends and family all dead, Primrose resigned herself to living the rest of her life with Hazel at Watership Down. Together, they had three children: Snowdrop, Gillia and Mallow.
