Prodigium (The Mummy)

Prodigium is an organization that features in The Mummy.

History

Prodigium was a secret society that had existed on Earth for centuries that targeted various threats and monsters in the world. The organization came under the leadership of Dr. Henry Jekyll who commanded them in eliminating evil in the world. At some point, the became aware of an ancient evil monstrous threat residing in the world that predated the other dangers they had encountered with this emerging from the lands of Egypt. They came to believe that an Egyptian Princess had been erased from the history books and was a particular dangerous threat that was out there waiting to be discovered. In 2017, an underground drilling to expand tunnels underneath London uncovered a Crusader tomb that contained the bodies of various knights with their leader holding the jewel from the Dagger of Set. Prodigium came upon the scene and used their resources to lock down the site as they became convinced of the danger they were seeking out. To find the danger before anyone, Dr. Jekyll approached Jenny Halsey who became a member of the secret society and served as a researcher due to their shared interest. She determined that there was a hidden tomb containing the danger which was situated in a site known as Haram. The map she had made was taken by Nick Morton during a romantic encounter with him who sought to plunder the site of treasure and was unaware of the danger. This chain of events led to the accidental uncovering of the tomb that served as a prison for Princess Ahmanet with her sarcophagus being prepared for transport by Halsey through the resources at her disposal. However, the dark magic that empowered Ahmanet sought to free her with a soldier named Vail having been bitten by sand camels was mystically poisoned leading to his death. He was resurrected as an undead corpse that sought to free Ahmanet when he was stopped by his comrades. At that point, a large flight of crows were sent on a collision course for the plan causing it to crash in England. As a result of the crash, Ahmanet was freed but was in a weakened state with her attacking numerous people to drain their life energy to restore herself.

With the threat freed, Prodigum made a move and were informed of the location of Nick Morton who was cursed by Ahmanet to be her chosen vessel for Set. As a result, he was resurrected from death and became the target of the undead princess. She managed to corner him and Halsey but she herself was ambushed by Prodigium operatives that were on the scene to apprehend her. The captured undead princess was taken to Prodigium's secret headquarters where they contained her in a cell and began to pump mercury into her body to embalm her with the intention of dissecting the corpse afterwards. During this time, they discovered that Nick Morton had a connection to Ahmanet as he was cursed to become her chosen vessel for the god Set. This led to Dr. Jekyll to consider killing him to prevent that event but at that point the gem for the Dagger of Set was discovered with it being the final piece Ahmanet needed for her plan and was the point she decided to strike. Unaware to anyone, Ahmanet used her magic to enchant one of the Prodigum guards to cause him to break the circuit of the machines holding her in place. This allowed her to be freed and she killed several of the Prodigium operatives where she turned them into mummies to serve her in capturing Morton.

Overview

As a secret society, the existence of Prodigum was not known to the world at large. As such, they had a range of resources including technology and personnel including weapons at their disposal. Their aim was said to be to recognise, examine, contain and destroy evil. Typically, upon capturing a monster, they sought to contain it whereupon they dissected the creatures in order to study them.

The organization came to operate secretly from the Natural History Museum in London.

It derived its name from the Latin phrase monstrum vel prodigium which meant a warning of monsters.
