Proteus was a murderous shapeshifter of the New Olympian race who was the only criminal in the prison on New Olympus. On one escape attempt, he killed the father of Taurus; a second attempt to escape and destroy New Olympus was foiled by Taurus and Elisa Maza.

Proteus would be a threat to both humans and New Olympians after the latter revealed themselves to the world.
The Goliath Chronicles
Proteus escaped again and tracked down Goliath and Elisa for revenge. He was narrowly stopped with the help of Taurus, who recaptured him.
