History

The Rapture was one of thirteen legendary artifacts that existed in the world with it serving as a gateway between Earth and Hell. It was known to possess the potential of giving hope or taking it away with the former giving those in Hell the power to escape that dimension. Furthermore, it was stated that those who looked through the Rapture were capable of seeing the true nature of things but it required a human host in order to work.

It was first found by Horace Grimes who was a mathematician that lived in 1901 and was looking for a theoretical formula that would allow him to gain entry to the fifth dimension. He attempted to wear the Rapture though was not chosen for it which led to it killing him in the process. A century later, it was received by Tom Judge who discovered it by accident when he picked it up after hearing whispers from the artifact. When he met Tilly Grimes, she convinced him to wear it and he was transformed whereupon he was explained about the Raptures role in Heaven as well as Hell by the devil Nick. After being sent to hell, Judge met with Jackie Estacado and gave him hope to return to Earth. Following that, Tom Judge used the Rapture to complete personal tasks as well as missions from the devil. He was later asked to choose a successor to hell and he chose the Conductor but when he turned over the Rapture, they were transported back to Earth.

Some Time later Tom Judge was killed by Lachryma and the Rapture was taken from his body. Lachryma then went on a rampage in New York, causing madness. She was stopped by the Witchblade bearer Sara Pezzini. Sara got curious of the artifact and asked her friend Lara Croft to investigate the artifact. The search lead Lara into conflict with the Vatican and it's warrior the Magdalena. Carlos Delarch was also searching the Rapture and Lara and Magdalena joined forces to stop him. It seamed that after the defeat of Lachryma, the Rapture went back to it's previous owner, Tom Judge, in Hell. Tom Judge returned to earth with the Rapture, during the gathering of the Thirteen Artifacts. In The aftermath, Jackie Estacado rewrote the universe. Where Tilly Grimes was the bearer of the Rapture. It eventually passed back to Tom Judge.

Overview

The Rapture's most powerful ability is to transform its user into a brutish brimstone warrior. While in this form, the user possesses superhuman strength able to easily overpower ordinary humans or demons. The form also makes the user invulnerable to conventional injury from things such as gunfire, blades or intense physical trauma.

Besides this power, the Rapture can also open a portal to Hell, letting the user to travel to this realm at any point he wishes. The user can also purify condemned souls of their sins and free them, and even summon demons.

By looking through the Rapture, the user can also see things that are imperceptible to humans.
