Rattlor is a male character who features in He-Man and the Masters of the Universe.

Biography

Origin

Rattlor was a male member of the Snake Men race who lived on the world of Eternia. Long ago, he was roamed the surface of Eternia where he served as a General within the armies of his master King Hiss.

He managed to avoid imprisonment within the void alongside King Hiss, and at some point, he joined the Evil Horde. When King Hiss was released from the void, he summoned Rattlor back to his side, and was displeased that he had served Hordak in his absence.

1980s series

Rattlor was a member of the Evil Horde, who worked in tandem with Tung. He was mostly a silent figure, who communicated by rattling his tail. The rattles were then translated by Tung. Despite this, Rattlor did occasionally speak. Despite his early allegiance to the Horde, he was, at one point, seen working for Skeletor, but later returned to the Horde.

2002 series

Rattlor served as the General of the entire Snake Men army and the loyal right hand of King Hssss. After a climactic battle with Zodak and the Council of Elders, Rattlor and the other Snake Men were sealed in the void beneath Snake Mountain for thousands of years. When Kobra Khan, a descendant of the Snake Men, managed to open the void, General Rattlor was the first Snake Man freed by Kobra Khan. Before he could release the rest of his army, however, the void was sealed once again by the combined efforts of Zodak and He-Man, and Rattlor and Khan fled. Lying low for some time, Rattlor and Khan secured the co-operation of Evil-Lyn and turned her against Skeletor, convincing her to help them release King Hssss. Stealing Zodak's staff, Rattlor and Khan were finally able to free King Hssss and the rest of the Snake Men, and quickly took command of Snake Mountain. After a failed attempt to take Castle Grayskull, Rattlor was captured and imprisoned. Rattlor later managed to escape captivity by using his shed skin as a distraction. He quickly rejoined King Hssss, but was furious that Kobra Khan had known where he was imprisoned, but not come to his rescue. Khan had instead positioned himself as King Hssss's most loyal servant during Rattlor's absence, something which infuriated the General, who looked down on Khan as but a puny descendant of the real Snake Men. Later, Rattlor assisted Hssss in an attempt to stop the return of Hordak, and helped him to release the Snake God, Serpos.

In other media

Television

• In She-Ra: The Princess of Power, Rattlor appeared in the setting of the 1980s animated television series where he was voiced by actor Lou Scheimer. This version was shown as being a member of the Evil Horde where he served Hordak on Etheria.
• In He-Man and the Masters of the Universe, Rattlor appeared in the setting of the 2002 animated television series where he was voiced by actor Richard Newman. This version was a fierce Snakeman General who served King Hiss where long ago he and the others were imprisoned within the Void in Snake Mountain. This was until he was freed by Kobra Khan though they failed to free the rest of their number but did manage to escape. Afterwards, alongside Evil-Lyn, they orchestrated a plan to free King Hiss from the Void and succeeded in their goal.
