Biography

Princess Ravonna Renslayer in Avengers v1 #294.

Ravonna was a female human who was the daughter of King Carelius who was the ruler of Earth in the 40th century on Earth-6311 in the Multiverse. By that point in history, her father's kingdom was the last bastion of civilisation that had not been conquered by Kang the Conqueror. Kang himself had spared them because he had become smitten with the Princess Ravonna and liked the fire she displayed in resisting his advances. However, she refused his love because he was a commoner and not of royalty but Kang swore to win her heart eventually. As part of these efforts, he came to summon the Avengers to this future in the hopes of using them to display his battle prowess and thus win Ravonna's heart. Despite this plan, the Avengers came to join forces with Ravonna in defending her kingdom with this frustrating Kang to the point that he ordered a full scale attack on the kingdom. (Avengers v1 #23)

After Kang conquered the Avengers and the kingdom, he demanded a wedding ceremony be prepared. Kang's code had always been to kill the rulers of any conquered nation, however, to prevent uprisings. His general Baltag betrayed Kang in order to honor that code, and tried to have his ruler assassinated. Kang ended up allied with Ravonna and the Avengers to stop his rebellious army. Baltag was defeated, but tried to kill Kang with one last shot. Ravonna threw herself in the path of the blast, saving Kang's life. She professed her newfound love for him with her last breath. (Avengers v1 #24)

She later took on another guise, that of the Terminatrix, to battle Kang himself. Kang sacrificed himself so that she could live. (Avengers Annual v1 #21) As the Terminatrix, Ravonna put Kang in stasis and in order to keep his empire in order and safe from the Council of Cross-Time Kangs, she began posing as Kang, the only beings aware of her deception being the Anachronauts. She also began investigating eras earlier in time and discovered the temporal creature known as Alioth who ruled those eras and threatened to consume Kang's empire as well. Later, Ravonna's future self Revelation summoned three Avengers: Thunderstrike, War Machine, and US Agent, to stop the Terminatrix from reviving Kang. In retaliation, the Terminatrix summoned Avengers of her own: Captain America, Iron Man, and Thor. (Avengers: The Terminatrix Objective v1 #1) While the two teams of Avengers were manipulated into fighting each other, the Terminatrix was lured to the year 9999 AD by Revelation. When Immortus was finally about to die, his wife Ravonna Renslayer wished to die alongside him. However, neither could bear to ask their son Marcus Immortus to kill his mother, and so Immortus summoned six alternate versions of his wife from much earlier in her life, including Terminatrix. Placing them in stasis, Immortus explained that by killing their future self they would go on a path to become her and live a life of fulfillment. Terminatrix volunteered and euthanized her elder self right after Immortus died. She then immediately escaped, leaving the fate of other Ravonnas unknown. (Avengers: The Terminatrix Objective v1 #3)

In other media

Television

  • In The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes, Ravonna made brief appearances in the animated series starting in the episode "Meet Captain America" where she was voiced by actor Cindy Robinson. She was a dark skinned woman with long black hair and wore a blue-and-white royal dress from the far future with her being the love of Kang the Conqueror. Her world suffered from a temporal disturbance as this future history was overwritten by the distant past of the 21st century. Ravonna was on board the Damocles as it was hit by the temporal wave but she was pulled from the path of the chronal energy by Kang as he commanded his ship to jump to the past. Though he saved her from being erased, Ravonna was badly wounded and partially fading from history with her remaining in a coma-like state. In "The Kang Dynasty", it was shown that Ravonna was kept in stasis to prevent her from being erased from history when the Wasp encountered her.
  • In Loki, Ravonna Renslayer appeared in the setting of the Marvel Cinematic Universe television series where she was portrayed by actress Gugu Mbatha-Raw. Originally, she was a vaiant of Rebecca Tourminet who was captured by He Who Remains where he suppressed her original memories and used her as a soldier, renaming her Ravonna Renslayer. Using the Hunter name Hunter A-23, Renslayer led He Who Remains' army in the Multiversal War, resulting in a victory. Judge Renslayer and He Who Remains worked together to build the Citadel at the End of Time as a utopia, as well as the Time Variance Authority. They looked out at their nearly-complete utopia and admired it. He Who Remains complimented her efforts in the war, saying that he was pleased to lead with her. Renslayer opened a Timedoor to the Time Variance Authority Office and declared that the TVA was awaiting their commands. He Who Remains then told Renslayer that he would catch up and let her go to the TVA alone. He Who Remains later altered Renslayer's memory again to make her believe she was created by the beings known as the Time-Keepers who founded the Time Variance Authority, an organization he created to protect the Sacred Timeline from dangerous Variants, to stop the potential creation of another Multiverse. He Who Remains made sure to purge himself from her memories, making her think the Time-Keepers themselves created the TVA. Renslayer continued her service to the Time Variance Authority as Hunter A-23. On one mission, Renslayer and some Minutemen arrived via Timedoor to Asgard in an alternate timeline. There she and the other Minutemen arrested the Variant, who was a young child at the time, and kidnapped her, taking her to the TVA. Renslayer then accompanied the Variant to the courtroom for her trial. However, the Variant bit her arm, stole her TemPad, and ran away from her into a Timedoor.
