History

The Researchers of Divine Wisdom (Japanese: 天の智慧研究会, Hepburn: Ten no Chie Kenkyūkai) were one of the oldest organizations within the Alzano Empire who were considered the darkest face of the magical world and operated as a terrorist organization. They sought out the secrets of the Akashic Records and made efforts in order to acquire its power. Years ago, three of their members were secretly involved in Project Revive Life with these being Sion Rayford, his sister Ilushia Rayford and his friend Rainer Layer. This was an attempt at using magic to resurrect the dead though it really created a soul with some of the memories of the original after the sacrifice of numerous individuals. Their efforts led to the creation of Re=L Rayford who remained in their laboratory came to regret his actions and sought to flee with his sister along with his friend. He secretly contacted Glenn Radars of the Imperial Court Mage Corps of the Alzano Empire looking to extract them. An agreement was made with Sion returning to the laboratory to take his comrades to shelter but they were betrayed by Rainer Layer who murdered Sion and Ilushia. Ilushia's death led to her memories being transferred to the gestating Re-L Rayford. Afterwards, the bodies of the deceased Researchers was discovered by Glenn who recovered Re=L though the newly born girl was unaware of her past. It was later rumoured that the Researchers had acquired the data on the White Alchemy project known as Project Revive Life.

Through their agent in the Alzano Imperial Magic Academy, they sabotaged the institution and infiltrated it where they created a magical barrier that prevented anyone from entering or leaving it. They rounded up the student body and sent their agents to capture Rumia Tingel as they were aware of her true identity. The plan was for them to reroute the transportation circle to their rendezvous destination and have their operative Huey Lysen detonate the mana stores he was gathering to destroy the academy. This brought them into confrontation with Glenn Radars who they dismissed as a third-rate teacher but were unaware of his true identity. He was able to fight off the group's attackers and rescue Rumia thus thwarting the plot of the Researchers of Divine Wisdom. A further plot was aimed against Queen Alicia VII when their agent Eleanor Charlet operated as a handmaiden and had gave her a cursed necklace. This created a spell that killed her at a set time and if she revealed the plot allowing the conspirators to control her during her visit to the Imperial Magic Academy.

The Researchers were later secretly funnelling money into a White Alchemy research laboratory on an isolated island in the Alzano Empire. This mages were conducting research into using life magic to create new forms of life and had built the facility due it being above a source of mana. Unknown to anyone else, the director of the facility was working with the Researchers of Divine Wisdom into replicating Project: Revive Life.

Overview

In appearance, the Researchers of Divine Wisdom were a secret terrorist organization of magic users that operated within the Alzano Empire. They believed themselves to be the superior mages permitted to rule over the world of Magic, by pursuing all forms of mastering and understanding Magic at all costs. Their end goal serves as their main motivator in clashing with the Alzano Empire, which included activities such as terror attacks, planned assassinations, and assaults on military bases.

It consisted of a number of individuals that were skilled in the arts of magic. Members of the organization had a special tattoo that identified their membership into the group. The organization was headed by an individual who held the rank of Grandmaster. They were noted for holding financial reserves allowing them to channel it into hidden funding for secret experiments.

In terms of organization, it was divided into three levels of hierarchy, starting from the lowest Portals Order (第一団《門》ポータルス・オーダー, Pōtarusu-Ōdā) for new members, the second highest Adeptus Order (第二団《地位》アデプタス・オーダー, Adeputas-Ōdā) for experienced operatives, and the highest being the Heavens Order (第三団《天位》ヘヴンス・オーダー, Hebunsu-Ōdā) for the most powerful champions that head the organization. Each Order was granted a level of authority over its members, with the Heavens Order members being privy to the organization's grand plans. Each new member was granted the position of Applicant (Probationer) (参入志願者プロベイショナー, Purobeisyonā) before being allowed to join the organization. In addition, the organization also employs its own unit of assassins called Sweepers (掃除屋スイーパー, Suīpā), tasked to conduct assassination missions that serve its overall cause.
