SEELE is an organization that features in Neon Genesis Evangelion.

History

SEELE (ゼーレ, Zēre) was a mysterious cabal of unknown origins that had existed on Earth where it maintained a hidden grip on governments since ancient times. They were noted to had been active as far back as the end of World War II following their acquisition of the Dead Sea Scrolls.

In time, they came to be the secret benefactors that funded the operations of NERV.

Overview

SEELE was headed by a council of twelve members that were headed by a Chairman. An inner cabal known as the Human Instrumentality Committee also existed that consisted of five members.

Its influence was widespread as it had control over the United Nations and NERV.

From different facilities around the world, SEELE came to create the Mass Production Evangelions (エヴァンゲリオン量産機, Evangerion Ryousanki) that were fitted with S² Engines allowing them to operate without an external battery source and they lacked pilots as instead they were managed by the thought patterns of Kaworu Nagisa.

Members

  • Keel Lorenz : a mysterious elderly male possessing cybernetic implants over his body and who served as the group's Chairman.

Notes

  • SEELE was created by Gainax, Hideaki Anno and Yoshiyuki Sadamoto where they featured in the setting of Neon Genesis Evangelion.
  • The when translated from German meant Soul.
