Biography
Sakura Tohsaka (Japanese: 遠坂 桜, Hepburn: Tōsaka Sakura?) was a female human who was the daughter of Tokiomi Tohsaka (遠坂時臣, Tōsaka Tokiomi?) and Aoi Tohsaka (遠坂葵, Tohsaka Aoi?) with her being the younger sister of Rin Tohsaka where they were part of the Tohsaka mage family. Most magi families tended to select only a single heir to carry on the family tradition. This saw Tokiomi deciding that Rin would be his successor with it being believed that raising another child would introduce competition for the mantle. In this time, Zouken Matou who was an ancient ally of the Tohsaka family offered to adopt Sakra wth the intention of training her as a successor of the Matou magecraft as their own hair Shinji Matou was incapable of sorcery. Thus, she was forced to leave her family and came to take the name of Sakura Matou (間桐 桜, Matō Sakura). Due to her natural abilities, Zouken sought to use Sakura as one of his future vessels. This led to Sakura having to endure cruel training at the hands of Zouken and Byakuya Matou which left her as an empty and emotionless shell where she was resigned to her fate. Later on, Kariya Matou who was Sakura's adoptive uncle came to learn of her intended fate and looked to save the young girl as well as reunite her with her family. To do this, he entered in the Fourth Holy Grail War where his father had promised to release the child if he was successful. Sakura herself was unable to understand Kariya's motivation for helping her with her unaware that he was actually a childhood friend of her mother. However, he would ultimately die in the war where his death would demoralise Sakura to the point where she convinced herself not to attempt to fight against Zouken.
