Biography

Elaine Coll was a mental patient at Bellevue Hospital in Manhattan. She was chosen by Silvermane to become the new Scorpion after the retirement of the original. However, she opted to call herself Scorpia and was eager to get in on some action. Silvermane originally intended for Scorpia to aid Beetle and Hydro-Man to deliver Deathlok to him. After interference from Spider-Man, though Scorpia proved herself to be a formidable enemy, she was ultimately taken out. (Spider-Man: Power of Terror v1 #2) She recovered, and brought the surrendering Deathlok back to Silvermane. She was then ordered to ambush Spider-Man and Daredevil, who had infiltrated their base. She was able to wear them down, but was then betrayed by Silvermane, who shot her in the back. Infuriated, Scorpia vowed revenge, and followed Spider-Man and Daredevil to his location. Once there, she immediately attacked, ending her dispute with the heroes and instead going right for her former employer. Mainframe, another of Silvermane's mercenaries, took control over Scorpia's cybernetic enhancements and used her to attack Spider-Man. However, she soon regained mobility and blasted Silvermane. An explosion created by The Punisher knocked Scorpia off the building they were on, but a mentally conflicted Deathlok saved her. She then decided to flee the area, rather than be put in prison. (Spider-Man: Power of Terror v1 #4)

Afterwards, Scorpia joined the new Sinister Six that consisted now of 7 members alongside The Hobgoblin, Electro, Mysterio, the Vulture, the Shocker, and the Beetle. Their main purpose was to stop Kaine from killing any more of Spider-Man's enemies. (Spider-Man Unlimited v1 #9) When Kaine disguised himself as Spider-Man and attacked Hobgoblin, Scorpia immediately joined the others in the battle. However, they were not accustomed to working together, much to Scorpia's disdain. Spider-Man eventually entered the battle and was able to defeat Scorpia herself. She also participated in another battle against Spider-Man with some of her former allies, and new ones such as Boomerang and Jack O' Lantern. She was defeated when Spider-Man threw Jack O'Lantern at her. (Spider-Man Unlimited v1 #12)

When Mac Gargan resurfaced, Scorpia laid low for a while.

Much later, Scorpia was seen attacking Carnegie Hall in search of a man named Garrison Klum, whom she had planned to assassinate in a redesigned suit. She was able to fight her way through various policemen and thugs, but was attacked by Spider-Man and Black Cat. Scorpia held her own against the pair, but Black Cat was able to rip her tail off by jumping out of a hole in the wall while connected to it. (Spider-Man/Black Cat: The Evil That Men Do v1 #2) She was later interrogated by Spider-Man at Midtown North Precinct, where she revealed she was hired by Alberto Ortega, the head of a local drug syndicate. (Spider-Man/Black Cat: The Evil That Men Do v1 #3)

She was later interrogated quite humorously by Spider-Man, where she revealed that she was hired by Alberto Ortega, the head of a local drug syndicate. She was one of a group of villains that consisted of Coachwhip, Discus, Doctor Nemesis II, the Enforcers, Fer-de-Lance, Hydro-Man, Poundcakes, Powderkeg, Puff Adder, Rattler, Rock Python, Squid, Stiletto, and Trapster where they were at the Bar With No Name watching a fight between Spider-Man and the Basher on YouTube. She was among those that placed their bet with the Bookie. (Amazing Spider-Man v1 #562) It was later revealed that the Spider-Man who fought Basher was actually Screwball in disguise with the real Wall-Crawler arriving at the scene. Scorpia was among the villains who fought Spider-Man until Deke the bartender broke up the battle, telling them that the Bar With No Name is a sanctuary for those on the run from the law. (Amazing Spider-Man v1 #563)

Later on, Scorpia appeared as one of the villains in the employ of Caroline Le Fay. She helped fight off the forces of Thanos where alongside Shriek, Scorpia, Titania and Mindblast of the Doom Maidens took down Wardogs of Thanos to acquire Terrigenesis cocoons from NYC alongside Caroline Le Fay. This saw them getting into a short fight with the Shieldmaidens consisting of Valkyrie, Hippolyta, Misty Knight alongside the NuHuman Ren before escaping with several cocoons. (Fearless Defenders v1 #10) The Doom Maidens now consisting of Anaconda, Aradnea, Echidna, Mindblast, Scorpia, Shriek, Titania, Zheng Bao Yu, Caroline le Fay and Mr. Raven fought the attacking Defenders who operated as the Shieldmaidens. During the battle Moonstar knocked out Scorpia, Shriek and Anaconda with an electric arrow she had won in a bet from Hawkeye. Caroline le Fay disappeared, and Shieldmaiden Nova absorbed all her remaining magical energy. (Fearless Defenders v1 #12) The Doom Maidens Scorpia and Titania stood guard as Caroline le Fay met with Solo and Foolkiller about buying a Rigellian Recorder robot with knowledge of the future. (Deadpool and the Mercs for Money v1 #2) Le Fay sent Scorpia and Titania to guard the captive mutant Negasonic Teenage Warhead at Umbral Dynamics' headquarters in Bagalia. When Deadpool attempted to rescue her, Titania took on Deadpool while Scorpia attempted to subdue NTW herself. While she initially gained the upper hand, the teenage mutant soon grabbed her tail and swung her into the floor with it, and nearly used her as a weapon against Titania before they were interrupted by a hologram of le Fay. (Deadpool and the Mercs for Money v2 #4) Scorpia, Titania, and le Fay's ally the Presence battled Deadpool, NTW, and Deadpool's Mercs for Money team. Deadpool taunted her about being the 'girl version' of a Spider-Man villain, and impaled her tail with a sword, but Scorpia instead used the sword-tail as an additional weapon against him. Eventually, however, Deadpool freed NTW from captivity, and she used her powers to blast Scorpia and Titania into submission, then absorbed the Presence's power. (Deadpool and the Mercs for Money v2 #5)

Hunted

Scorpia was among several animal-themed super-villains captured by Taskmaster and Black Ant to serve as hunting targets in Central Park for Kraven the Hunter, Arcade, and a host of wealthy participants controlling robotic drones. (Amazing Spider-Man v5 #19) As the drones began killing several super-villains, Scorpia and several others agreed to appointing the Vulture as their leader. (Amazing Spider-Man v5 #20.HU) Alongside Vulture and his army of villains, Scorpia ambushed the drones. (Amazing Spider-Man v5 #22)

When the Beetle founded an all-female criminal enterprise named the Syndicate, Scorpia was part of it. (Amazing Spider-Man v5 #25) Together, they went after Boomerang for revenge. (Amazing Spider-Man v5 #26) The Beetle arranged behind her partners' back to hand him over to the Kingpin. (Amazing Spider-Man v5 #27) The entirety of the Syndicate felt compelled to help him evade arrest when he disclosed that he was trying to keep the pieces of the Lifeline Tablet out of Fisk's hands. The Syndicate were subsequently apprehended, but Beetle broke them out of police custody. (Amazing Spider-Man v5 #28) Not long afterward, Beetle was kidnapped by Madame Masque and Crime Master due to being the daughter of Tombstone. Tombstone enlisted the help of the Syndicate to rescue her and her boyfriend Randy Robertson. In the process, Scorpia and her teammates unwillingly teamed up with Spider-Man again, who was also helping foil Masque's and Crime Master's plans. (Amazing Spider-Man v5 #65) Scorpia was next seen robbing a bank in Jersey City, though she was quickly defeated by both Ms. Marvel and Captain Marvel. (Captain Marvel v10 #30) As part of his final attack against Spider-Man, the demonic Kindred abducted numerous villains that had been recently involved in the hero's life and implanted parasites in their brains to force them to do his bidding, including Scorpia. After capturing Spider-Man, Kindred let the villains loose on the hero, having promised that whoever killed the Web-Slinger was the only one to escape eternal damnation at his hands. (Sinister War v1 #2) The villains waged war against Spider-Man and each other until Doctor Octopus managed to broadcast an ultrasonic frequency that killed the parasites inside every villain's brain, neutralizing Kindred's only leverage on them, but also knocking all of them unconscious. (Sinister War v1 #4)
