History

The Society of the Golden Wing was a secret society whose roots dated back to the American revolution and was founded by members of the Kendall family. (Nightwing v2 #145) It was said to had been founded 200 years ago for the purpose of taking America to a 'higher plateau' by teaching them the power of flight. (Black Condor v1 #2)

They maintained two distinct programs running concurrently in order to prevent any delays to the project and prevented them from being two years behind schedule. (Nightwing v2 #145)

They had originally intended Ryan Kendall as a tool and a weapon to achieve their goals. However, he went rogue and instead operated as a superhero which led to the Society looking to reclaim him back as their property as they deemed that not only did he represent their past but their future as well. Kendall's own grandfather had intended to have him be returned either alive or dead as in the latter case they intended to analyse his corpse. (Black Condor v1 #2)

After the kidnapping of the Mother of Champions, the Great Ten member was used to create the genetically engineered offspring of the golden society. These were funded by Talia al Ghul whose fear of her father Ra's al Ghul led her to developing numerous weapons at her disposal. (Nightwing v2 #145)

Overview

In appearance, the Society of the Golden Wing were a secret society that operated in North America. (Black Condor v1 #2)

Their goal was said to allow Americans to be able to achieve the power of flight. For this purpose, they had spent generations in order to breed their prize test subject. (Black Condor v1 #2) It was believed that once the Golden Society took wing that a new golden age would occur that would set the country back to its greatness. This was said to be based on their founding family's desire to give man the ability to fly. (Nightwing v2 #145) However, it was said that the Society looked to subvert the very spirit of America itself and rule all of it. (Black Condor v1 #2)

The breeding experiments left several members of the society malformed and failures in achieving their desired forms. (Black Condor v1 #2)

The children were said to possess unique strength, endurance and speed though were not of the level shown by heroes like Superman. Testing revealed that the subjects within their late twenties had exhibited the strength of approximately 20 men. As adults, these creations of the society possessed wings giving them the power of flight. An issue with them was their accelerated lifespan that caused them to mature quickly but also led to them aging faster where in a 48 hour period a young adult could end up as an old man. (Nightwing v2 #145)

It was known that the society maintained its own shock troopers that were deployed on urgent assignments. Among these included recovering of high priority targets. (Black Condor v1 #2)
