History
Origin
The Squadron Supreme were a team of superheroes that resided on Earth-712 in the Multiverse. (Avengers v1 #84)
During one of these battles, they became aware that US President Rockefeller of their reality had come under the control of the Serpent Crown. (Avengers v1 #148) They publicly denounced the government, causing Rockefeller to be ousted from office. (Avengers v1 #149)
Supreme Power
A new incarnation of the Squadron came to form in the reality of Earth-31916. (Supreme Power v1 #1)
Secret War
On Earth-616, a new version of the Squadron Supreme came to form in the aftermath of the Secret Wars. This version consisted of variations of the team's members who all came from different worlds on the Multiverse where they became stranded on the mainstream Earth. (Avengers v6 #0)
Their first mission was to punish Namor for destroying Doctor Spectrum's world and cooperating with the Cabal, as well as numerous attacks upon the surface world. They rationalised this by claiming that Namor and Atlantis were a threat to the rest of the world. They eventually confront him, along with Attuma and the rest of Atlantis. Zarda killed Attuma, while Hyperion yanked the city of Atlantis from the ocean, lifted it high into the air, and hurled it down, utterly destroying it. Hyperion proceeded to decapitate Namor with his Atomic Vision. (Squadron Supreme v4 #1) These events led to the people of Earth having mixed reactions about them, and forcing the Avengers Unity Division to attempt to apprehend the Squadron Supreme. (Squadron Supreme v4 #2) However, they were unexpectedly rescued by Thundra and teleported to Weirdworld. (Squadron Supreme v4 #3) When on Weirdworld, the Squadron Supreme were separated where they end up encountering a resurrected Doctor Druid. (Squadron Supreme v4 #4)
Squadron Supreme of America
Another incarnation of the Squadron came to be created on Earth-616 by Phil Coulson who helped form the Squadron Supreme of America as the U.S. government's own superhero team. (Avengers v1 #700)
Overview
In appearance, the Squadron Supreme were a team of superheroes and vigilantes who set themselves up as protectors of the world. (Avengers v1 #85)
At one point, they came to make use of the ruins of Utopia Isle as a base of operations. (Squadron Supreme: New World Order v1 #1)

Notes
- The Squadron Supreme was created by Roy Thomas and John Buscema where they made their first appearance in Avengers v1 #85 (February 1971).
- The team were pastiches of prominent members of rival publisher DC Comics superhero team the Justice League.
Alternate Versions
- In Avengers v1 #69 (1969), an alternate version the team known as the Squadron Sinister came to be created by the Grandmaster and were based on the Squadron Supreme of Earth-712.
In other media
Television
- In The Super Hero Squad Show, the Squadron Supreme appeared in the setting of the animated television series in the episode "Whom Continuity Would Destroy".
- In Avengers Assemble, the Squadron Supreme appeared in the setting of the animated television series though they were based on their Squadron Sinister incarnation.
