History

Origin

The Stark were an alien race whose origins were traced to the 21st century when Earth was invaded by the Martians. These extraterrestrials from Mars ravaged the world and to prevent his technology from falling into the Martian hands Tony Stark launched the suits of armor into space. Tony Stark had calculated that the trajectory of the rocket would leave the technology lost forever. However, he erred in these calculations causing the capsule to crash land on an alien planet that had no name as its inhabitants were a primitive species on the brink of civilization. Initially, the alien inhabitants feared the craft but were intelligent creatures that eventually ventured into the capsule to examine it. For several hundred years, the alien race examined and studied the technology of the capsule such as the suits of armor and the computers leading them to understand their operations. The understanding of the technology and science led to them developing a technologically advanced society. This civilization would come to revere the creator of the capsule and its contents who they came to consider as a techno-god whereupon they named their race as well as their planet after him. As a result, they came to be known as the Stark who molded themselves in their deity's image and began fashioning armor for themselves. (Guardians of the Galaxy v1 #2)

In time, their home world was covered with massive factories that spread across the land like cancerous tumors that polluted the air. Within three generations, their planet became heavily polluted turning the environment toxic to their people. To survive, they built temperature controlled domes around their cities that protected themselves from ultraviolet rays that left the planetary surface incapable of supporting life. Pneumatic tubes were used to transport the occupants from one city to another as the world became increasingly toxic. The Stark home world's automated factories continued to smelt the core mined from the surface forcing all its people to wear the life-sustaining armor. Their strip mining efforts put the planet to the brink of destruction forcing them to seek expansion into space. It was then they used their advanced technology to create a caste of cyborg-scouts to be their advance force in the conquest of new worlds to plunder of resources. (Guardians of the Galaxy v1 #2)

In the 28th century, the Sysop of the Programmer faction used time travel machinery to transport his peoples deity Tony Stark to their time. (Iron Man v1 #280)

During the 31st century, the Stark their aggressive expansion through the cosmos and encountered the Guardians of the Galaxy. (Guardians of the Galaxy v1 #2)

Guardians 3000

In a changed timeline, the Stark were creations of Anthony Stark who they held as their progenitor and revered. According to their kind, they were created by Tony Stark when he developed the A-Sentience that was meant to activate following the demise of the Avengers. It was tasked with avenging the Avengers and taking their place by becoming guardians of reality. Around this time, they detected a disturbance in the fabric of space-time and sought to prevent the collapse of reality. As a result, they attempted to combat this damage but because of their low number, the A-Sentience decided to co-opt the Badoon to serve as their operatives where the ruthless reptilian invaders massacred victims in their path. The A-Sentience, however, only intended to continue this approach until more Stark units were manufactured whereupon they would have dispensed with the Badoon. As a result of the temporal nature of the Guardians of the Galaxy, the spacefaring heroes of that era were targeted for elimination by the Stark. (Guardians 3000 v1 #4)
