Biography

Dagan Shah

According to him, he was unable to go to school and only had a very brief understanding of physics. (Hulk v2 #46) by adulthood, he came to be a rebel fighter and led insurgents that fought against the Qatari government. (Hulk v2 #42)

At some point, he came to be captured by Qatari soldiers but quickly escaped after releasing a grenade he'd held in his mouth. Stumbling through the desert, he collapsed, only to be engulfed in a white light. (Hulk v2 #42) This saw him coming upon an ancient Cosmoreceptor of the Rigellian species that had arrived on Earth 50,000 years ago. The machine had been hit by a cosmic ray storm damaging it and its compliment of Rigellian embryos was consumed by primitive human hominids. Thus, the probe remained inactive for thousands of years with no contact with the greater Rigel supersociety. As such, the cosmoreceptor went to secondary function of spreading Rigellian culture and sent out a homing song where it attracted the wounded Dagan Shah. He bonded with the machine but the device failed in overwriting his mind and instead he subsumed control over the cosmoreceptor whose resources were repurposed for his needs. He came to use its advanced technology to create a civilization within the deserts of the Middle-East as he established the nation of Sharzhad. (Hulk v2 #45) With the alien technology, he created a lucrative arms business of himself where he made it that any attempts to reverse engineer the weapons would be lethal to the people doing so. The money and food he gained allowed him to continue to fund the separation of an area along the border of Libya and Egypt. (Hulk v2 #43) This led to him making public overtures at his nation being recognised at an independent state. (Hulk v2 #46)

When Red Hulk and Machine Man came to investigate Sharzhad, Shah met them as Arabian Knight, letting them into the force field-protected Sharzhad and accompanying them to the palace. Once there, he revealed himself as Shah and imprisoned the two while revealing that he had also captured the real Arabian Knight. (Hulk v2 #44) Using his enhanced powers, he probed Red Hulk's mind to find that outside forces had a hand in sending Red Hulk to him. Flying to Cairo, he threatened the populace, saying nothing would stop him from creating and controlling Sharzhad. Returning, he attacked the recently escaped Machine Man and Red Hulk, ripping Machine Man in two. (Hulk v2 #45) He then learnt that the Red Hulk had broken into the Cosmoreceptor and sought to eliminate him. At first, he managed to overpower his foe and his ally Machine Man but they managed to trick him allowing them to gain an advantage. However, the fight ended when U.S. General Fortean arrived where he come under orders from the Arab League that recognised the state of Sharzad so long as he stopped weapons trading. As such, Shah considered the presence of the Red Hulk a violation of his country's sovereignty and demanded he leave with the hero forced to do so. The Sultan Magus then declared that in time he would get his revenge against the Red Hulk for his prior actions before departing back to his capital. (Hulk v2 #46)

He later intercepted information that suggested the Red Hulk planned an attack on Sharzhad and went to stop him. The Sultan Magus arrived at pyramids in Mexico that had the power of transportation that could be used against him and he used his powers to destroy their power source. During this time, he was unaware that he had been tricked into fighting a greater menace namely the superrace of the Mayapan that had taken Hulk captive and were draining him of power. (Hulk v2 #57)

Overview

Personality and attributes

It was said that his warrior based nature and being forced to live a life where had to constantly fight to survive meant that he had a strong will. This was to the point that he was able to override the attempt to reprogram his mind by the Rigellian cosmoreceptor and instead take control of the machine. (Hulk v2 #45)

He claimed that he learnt from the actions of his enemies. (Hulk v2 #46)

Powers and abilities

Originally, Dagan Shah was a militant and an ordinary human being though one tried in warfare. This changed upon his exposure to the Rigellian Cosmoreceptor that impart the alien civilizations advanced science and technology to him. It empowered him with superhuman abilities that were derived from the science of the Colonizers of Rigel. (Hulk v2 #45) The innate abilities given by the Rigel technology meant he was able to intuit rather than understand the advanced principles behind the technology. The energy could be used to give him flight, superhuman strength, superhuman durability and other powers such as the capacity to create duplicates of himself. (Hulk v2 #57) It was shown that he was strong enough to lift a battleship and drop it in the middle of a city. (Hulk v2 #45) Sultan Magus had the ability to generate a crystal-like super hard material around himself capable of withstanding even the blows of the Red Hulk. (Hulk v2 #46)

Within the space the centre of the cosmoreceptor, his form was able to channel all the power he needed making him incredibly powerful and even repair severe damage to his body such as having his arms cut off. (Hulk v2 #46) Initially, he was limited by the range of his power as he had to be close to his Cavern of Wonders but later improved the process to allow him to operate at full strength around the world. (Hulk v2 #57)

He could transform his followers into hybrid creatures using the advanced genetic knowledge of the Cosmoreceptor. This allowed him to turn them into superhuman operatives that were part human and part animal. (Hulk v2 #45)

With the alien technology, he created a lucrative arms business. This was used to gain money and food that funded the separation of an area along the border of Libya and Egypt. (Hulk v2 #43)
