Superdoom
Overview
Even Kryptonians were not immune to infection and following a period of time their body began to change on a genetic level. Their body became more monstrous with bony protrusions forming all over their body. (Action Comics v2 #31)
Notes
- The concept of Superdoom was created by Grant Morrison and Gene Ha where it made its first appearance in Action Comics v2 #9 (July, 2012).
- In an interview, writer Greg Pak talked about the challenges Superman faced as SuperDoom, "It certainly raises the emotional stakes. Part of this story is a test of Clark and how strong he is, not physically, but emotionally. We're looking at how strong his heart is. How strong is that heroic spirit inside of him? What happens through much of this story is that even when he's SuperDoom, Clark is trying to do a lot of things that he would do as Superman. He's coming back to Earth to save the day, even though he's going to SuperDoom-out. In a way, that heroic heart of his may be making him even more dangerous. He is convinced that the world needs him to save the day, but if SuperDoom completely takes over, then he could destroy everything. He just can't stay away because he needs to help people. The devilish nature of the SuperDoom virus is that it takes Superman's greatest virtues and uses them against him and against us."
Alternate Versions
- In Action Comics v2 #40 (2015), an alternate version of Superdoom appeared in the Bizarrworld reality that was designated as Earth-29 in the Multiverse. This reality's Bizarro was present when Doomsday arrived on his world alongside Superman. The latter managed to convince Bizarro of the danger posed by Doomsday leading to them battling the monster. During the fight, Bizarro came to destroy Doomsday but became infected by the monsters virus thus creating Doomzaro. Doomzaro then flew to Bizarroworld and infected the planet, making everything cute and fluffy which were an anathema to the Bizarros. However, Bizarro's will and sense of decency were strong enough to resist Doomsday, and he flew to the sun to destroy the virus within himself, saving his world. He survived, and came back to his adopted world afterwards for Lois Lane's 'hate'.
