History
Pre-Crisis
The Superman Emergency Squad were a team of miniaturised Kryptonians from the Bottle City of Kandor who would on occasion assist Superman.
One of their earliest missions, the Superman Emergency Squad left Kandor in order to recover a laser weapon that had Supergirl's fingerprints on it. The ray gun had come under the possession of Jimmy Olsen, who had given it to his fan club. The Kandorians were concerned that close inspection of the item might reveal Supergirl's true identity. They worked alongside Jimmy to retrieve the item, but when Jimmy went to his boss, Perry White, to tell him about the "tiny Supermen", Perry thought he was just nuts. (Superman's Pal, Jimmy Olsen v1 #48)
In May 1961, the Supermen Emergency Squad joins forces with Supergirl to carry out an elaborate, and ultimately successful, ruse designed to persuade John Kiley and his cohorts that Kiley was only experiencing a drug-induced hallucination when he saw Clark Kent change into Superman. (Action Comics v1 #276)
In October 1961, the Supermen Emergency Squad helped Superman thwart the mischievous machinations of Mister Mxyzptlk. (Superman v1 #148)
By August 1962, Superman's vulnerability to Kryptonite had been temporarily replaced by a vulnerability to gold. This led to Superman having to be rescued from a potentially fatal overexposure to gold by members of the Supermen Emergency Squad. (Action Comics v1 #291).
Later, in October 1962, exposure to Red Kryptonite had temporarily transformed Superman into two separate individuals. One was a mature responsible Clark Kent and the other was an unprincipled, irresponsible Superman. Events resulted in the entire city of Kandor being imprisoned in the Phantom Zone by the arrogant Superman in order to prevent the Supermen Emergency Squad from interfering with his plan to keep the personalities of Clark Kent and Superman separate forever. Ultimately, Clark Kent managed to free Kandor from the Phantom Zone, and soon afterwards he succeeded in bringing about the reuniting of Clark Kent and Superman into a single individual. (Action Comics v1 #293). During this same period, when Superman was believed to be dying of an incurable malady with the Supermen Emergency Squad joining forces with Krypto the Superdog, Supergirl, the Legion of Super-Heroes, several of Superman's Super-robots, as well as Lori Lemaris and the mer-people of Atlantis to carry out two of the gigantic super-tasks that Superman hopes to fulfill as his final legacy to humanity. Among these included the melting of the Antarctic ice, in order to make the site a fit place for millions to live in the future thus ensuring a home for Earth's expanding population. In addition, they provided an injection to a colossal sea monster which has been growing to ever more titanic size due to the stimulation of undersea radioactivity—with a special shrinking formula so that it will not one day become so terrifyingly gargantuan that it menaces the safety of Earth (Superman v1 #156)
Post-Crisis
Following the Crisis on Infinite Earths, a new version of reality was created with a different history of events. The Kandaorian Emergency Squad
