History

The Tablet of Death and Entropy was a relic that had been constructed by the ancient Lemurians and was the sister piece of the Tablet of Life and Time. (Amazing Spider-Man v1 #547)

Though recovered, a corrupt police detective named Willowby was paid by Mister Negative to recover the Tablet from the evidence locker in secret. He then went to Chinatown to hand it over to some of Mister Negative's henchmen who initially refused to pay the man. Mister Negative was at the scene and believed his reputation was sullied by his henchmen who he killed whereupon he paid Willowby after inspecting the Tablet. It was then he went to find an expert in foreign tongues that could help translate the writings on it. (Amazing Spider-Man v1 #546) After it was translated, he intended to use the formula on it to crate 'the Devil's Breath' poison that was selective in killing those of a set bloodline. Mister Negative intended to use it against the Maggia crime family and captured Bruno Karnelli to extract the necessary blood from him but his operations was interrupted by the arrival of Spider-Man who fought the crime lord's Inner Demons. In the fight, the Wall-Crawler seemingly destroyed the Tablet of Death and Entropy but Mister Negative had already written down the formula he needed to create his poison. (Amazing Spider-Man v1 #547)

After regaining his body, Mister Negative came to trade the Tablet to Mayor Wilson Fisk where in exchange for it he would gain his previous territories in Chinatown and the Lower East side. Fisk then offered more territory in New York in exchange for acquiring the Tablet's twin leading to a competition being waged amongst New York's other crime lords. (Amazing Spider-Man v5 #59)
