History

Tailed Beasts (尾獣, bijū) were titanic beasts composed of Chakra whose origins were traced to the Ten-Tails (十尾, Jūbi) that was the combined form of Kaguya Ōtsutsuki and the God Tree. The Sage of Six Paths was responsible for saving the world by sealing the Ten-Tails into his own body thus becoming its jinchūriki host. Some time later, he came to be inspired by his youngest son Asura to use his Creation of All Things ability to divide the Ten-Tail's chakra into nine living entities with these becoming the Tailed Beasts. Each of the nine beasts was named by the Sage who explained to them the link they shared despite their separation from one another. He also explained that a time would come where they would be brought together in order for them to be shown the true nature of power. Temples were later built by the Sage's followers with these constructed at nine different sites around the world with these serving as places for the Tailed Beasts to live in and to protect. Thus, a new balance was created in the world with the Tailed Beast's creation being to maintain the peace along with preventing the reformation of the Ten-Tails. Years later, Hashirama Senju forcibly captured several of the Tailed Beasts where he distributed them amongst new villages in order to stabilise the balance of power between them.
