History

The Emperor creates the Imperial Arms.

Teigu (Japanese: 帝具, Translation: Imperial Arms) were powerful weapon relics that existed in the world with mysterious origins. It was said that they were constructed under the orders of the First Emperor who feared that the Empire that he had founded would eventually fall. To prevent this event, he brought many scientists to construct weapons and defenses from a range of materials he had gathered from around the world. Their efforts led to the creation of the Teigu with 48 being built as a result. Around five centuries ago, a civil war erupted in the Empire causing half of the Imperial Arms being lost. Due to their rarity and power, Teigu became prized objects in the Empire and among its enemies.

In time, several of the weapons came into the hands of the Revolutionary Army who equipped with them to their elite team of assassins known as Night Raid.

Overview

In appearance, the Teigu came in a wide variety of shapes and forms ranging from weapons to equipment to independent entities. Each Imperial Arm was different and had different abilities attributed to it. They came in a variety of shapes and forms ranging from weapons to equipment. Not anyone could wield a Teigu as there was an issue of compatibility as even a strong user could be rejected by the Imperial Arms. A key factor affecting compatibility was the user's first impression of the Teigu. Without any compatibility, the Imperial Arms was effectively an ordinary relic with no abilities.

Many of these weapons were created from the remains of Danger Beasts that had unique powers thus imbuing the equipment with their special abilities. Their forging was made through the use of a rare metal called Orichalcum.

A unique form of Teigu was an organic-type Imperial Arms that were seemingly living entities. These beings were able to regenerate their wounds with their only weakness being a core that if destroyed was able to eliminate the Teigu.

One aspect of a Teigu was a hidden ability (奥の手, oku no te, lit. secret move) that was referred to as a Trump Card or Ace in the Hole. This was a special powerful ability that could be used as a last resort in a battle. Not all Imperial Arms possessed a Trump Card though certain users were able to develop one in their Teigu themselves.
