Tesseract is a term given to a type of science and technology that featured in Andromeda.

History

Tesseract was a rare example of advanced technology that was provided to servants of the Spirit of the Abyss. Its first use was by the bounty hunter Jeger who was dispatched by the Abyss to find and capture the Perseid All-Systems University Special Collections Division agent Renvik who possessed a recording of the battle of Bradenburg Tor. This visual evidence contained sightings of the Abyss commanding the Magog in their invasion of that world in the Systems Commonwealth and thus was highly classified. As such, Jeger was sent to eliminate the Perseid and retrieve the data; though he managed to mortally wound Renvik, the data was transferred into Seamus Harper. Jeger managed to use Tesseracts to evade the crew of the Andromeda Ascendant and even escape his vessels destruction after he failed in his mission. (Episode: Harper 2.0)

Afterwards, the Abyss dispatched Satrina Leander and equipped her along with a quartet of soldiers with Tesseracts. Satrina used a Magog Swarm Ship enveloped in a Tesseract to be fixed on the hull of the Glorious Heritage class cruiser without them detecting its presence. From there and its portable power generator, she managed to gain instant access throughout the ships levels via the Tesseract technology. (Episode: Into the Labyrinth)

Background

They were an area of space warped across multiple dimensions with individuals capable of creating as well as navigating them being like a three dimensional being moving through the second dimension. Such individuals would still need to worry about aspects such as gravity but were easily able to walk through solid matter, travel great distances and even turn space inside out. The power requirements for such feats were known to be quite staggering though it was possible to create portable generators that were able to be inserted into a dataport. It was possible to disrupt the usage of a Tesseract by introducing an interfield pattern through the use of gravity generators which was able to freeze the user in a painful partial state unless the Tesseract generator was removed.
