Biography
Gustav Fiers
He once headed a school for the covert arts that handpicked students for their promise by the same benefactor. Each were trained to adopt any persona and infiltrate societies around the world. Some became titans of industry, elected leaders and even double agents. At some point, he was noted to had taken an interest in Dmitri Smerdyakov who was an illegitimate child of the Kravinoff family. The boy was shown to had skill leading to Fiers taking him away to be trained at the school leading to Dmitri become a master class spy and infiltrator called the Chameleon. The Gentleman was among a group of crime lords in New York City who gathered after the Kingpin was seemingly killed. In this time, his protege Janus looked to claim his criminal empire with the support of the gathered figures of the criminal underworld. This failed when Wilson Fisk was revealed to had survived where he came to kill Janus for his betrayal. (Civil War II: Kingpin v1 #4) Teresa Parker seeking revenge against the Chameleon came to track him down to a Russian prison and looking to kill him. However, he claimed to had known secrets about Teresa leading to her interacting with a hologram of Gustav Fiers. The Gentleman then claimed that 'Teresa Parker' was actually the name of one of his sleeper agents and tried to convince her that her entire life was a lie. He offered to tell her the truth if she used her influence to give him the device known as the Clairvoyant but ultimately she rejected him and believed everything Fiers told her was a lie. - The Gentleman was created by Adam-Troy Castro and Mike Zeck where he made his first appearance in the novel Spider-Man: The Gathering of the Sinister Six (March 1999).
- He was an original novel creation and had not featured or was based on a comic character from Marvel Comics.

- In The Amazing Spider-Man, the character made an appearance where was credited only as the 'Man in the Shadows' during the mid-credits scene and was portrayed by Michael Massee. He would visit Dr. Curt Connors in his cell at Beloit Psychiatric Hospital where he asked him if Peter Parker knew the truth about his father. Conners would deny telling Parker anything and the Man in the Shadows simply left the room by stepping in the corner of the room.
- In The Amazing Spider-Man 2, the character was identified as Gustav Fiers and was portrayed again by Michael Massee. During the credit sequence, he would visit Harry Osborn who was incarcerated at Ravencroft Institute for his crimes as the Green Goblin. The Gentleman would tell Harry that he was forming a group with Osborn informing him that everything he needed to accomplish his goal was present at the 'special projects' room at OsCorp Tower.
