Biography

Russell in 1955.

Russell was a highly intelligent person who lived in the mid-20th century where he operated in Central City in the United States of America. At some point, he decided to embark on the path of villainy where he used his highly intelligent mind to orchestrate crimes by taking control of television sets where he called himself the Ghost. During this time, he fell in love with Belle Crocker who operated as a sidekick for him and referred to herself as the Ghostess. In addition, he managed to gain the services of a skilled technician known as Skip who aided him in his technological operations. It was said that the Ghost had made many predictions on the changes in technology that would come to the future and yearned to see this world. Part of his activities included making a deep freeze chamber within a building he had purchased. His operations in later attracted the attention of the masked vigilante known as the Nightshade. In 1955, Russell would rig several bombs throughout Central City that he planned to detonate through television sets and demanded that he be paid a million dollars otherwise he would trigger the explosives. Whilst waiting for his demands to be met, his base was assaulted by the Nightshade who used a frequency jammer to prevent the Ghost from activating his television signal. The equipment in the base would explode and start a fire with the Nightshade taking Belle away with it being believed that Russell perished in the flames. However, in reality, he managed to escape into his secret underground bunker that was shielded from the fires where he decided to enter into a deep freeze. He would set the machines to keep him in stasis until the turn of the millennium where he desired to awaken in 1999 where he felt technology would finally match his intelligence. A fault in the freezer instead awoken him from hibernation in the next 35 years where he would awaken in 1990.

Upon awakening, he went out into the city to behold its wonders only to be disappointed that technology had not advanced as far ahead as he had envisioned. This he noted whilst at a game arcade but during this time there he managed to acquire the services of various teenagers to work for him as part of his gang. He would also seek out Belle Crocker who was an older singer at a nightclub and managed to get her to work for him again. With his gang, he had them raid a charity telethon in order to steal the equipment from the scene and broadcasted his appearance to Central City. With the stolen equipment, he had them returned to his lair and managed to locate his old technician Skip who agreed to work for the Ghost again. Skip would inform the Ghost of this era's newest superhero namely the Flash though Russell felt he had little to fear from him. Together, they would raid S.T.A.R. Labs for the equipment they needed and the Ghost would rig a trap that left the Flash stuck beneath entrapment lasers. Russell would be shocked to encounter the Nightshade but a fire fight left the aged vigilante whilst Skip was hit with a tranquilizer dart. He would unmask the Nightshade and be surprised to find him a 'colored man'. After taking the equipment to his lair, he had Skip help him rig machines to link him with the grid to give him complete control over all of Central City. He intended to use this control to once more blackmail the city for a large ransom otherwise he would keep all services shut down potentially leading the loss of life. Belle would not be happy with these developments as she did not like the idea of people dying nor how she had become much older whilst Russell remained young. Thus, she would leave for the nightclub whilst the Ghost continued his plan for blackmailing Central City.

With the advanced equipment, the Ghost proceeded with his hack of the city's computer networks causing massive disruptions in traffic, telephones and computers. With his brain wired into the network, he demanded that the city give him $1 billion otherwise he was going to shut down the whole grid. He was opposed by both the Nightshade and the Flash who had assaulted his headquarters. Russell managed to trap the Flash in virtual reality but Nightshade jammed his equipment. This allowed the Flash to disconnect the Ghost from the machine leaving him unconscious.
