- The Other was created by Ben Aaronovitch's where he was first referenced in the Target Books novelisation of Remembrance of the Daleks (1990)
- The character never featured in the television series though was part of script editor Andrew Cartmel's story idea that never materialised with this being known as the Cartmel Masterplan which sought to restore some mystery to the character of the Doctor.
