Vita-1 is the name of a facility that features in Martian Gothic: Unification.

History

Vita-1 was the name of a research facility that was planned for the planet Mars by the 21st century. It was part of the Vita Project that was first instituted by President Bernard Allenby in 2005. The purpose of it was the search for physical evidence of extraterrestrial life. This was part of a long-term project that was geared towards the discovery and analysis of living Martian micro-organisms. As a result, enormous funds were made available to Earth Control in order to advance the pace of space exploration in a feat that outstripped the Apollo missions of the 1960s. The Vita project's aim was evident in its name with the term "Vita" meaning "life". Its construction was completed on October 2015 when the Martian base was built where it was situated at a reputed volcanic hotspot at the southern fringe of Olympus Mons. Initially crewed by ten personnel that were replaced in six-month shifts but between June to November 2016 the crew members was increased to thirty individuals whilst work began on Vita-2 at the Hellas Plain. In the time between July and September in 2017 where further extension to the research facility led to the crew being extended to forty-four members. On August 2018, the base crew had reached the maximum number of personnel of fifty eight members and was headed by Base Director Felicci alongside Chief Supervisor Oba as well as Project Director Harroway. During the further expansion of the base, preparations were made to transfer twenty crew members to Vita-2 on the Hellas Plain. In this time, the purpose of the Vita Project went a step further when it discovered that alien life still thrived under the forbidding Martian surface. Vita-1 was a base that was expected to be the first stepping stone to further such facilities on Mars with others being planned.

Background

Within the core of Vita-1, the base in 2015 crewed six men and four women and was a dedicated research base for the study of extant Martian life.. The Power Core was the pumping heart of the base and consisted of a 200 meter shaft linked to a natural underground heat source. Receptor panels stored the heat and transmitted the power to all areas of the base that included Recyc along with a MOOD Chamber. Air was supplied partly through a filtration process whilst 50% of food being supplied by a primitive "arboretum". Following the bases completion in 2015, the entirety of Earth Control's resources were placed at the disposal of the Vita project. The completed station was able to hold 58 staff and was heavily overcrowded with most personnel based at dorm living units in shifts. Under company protocols, the Base Director, Project Director and Chief Supervisor were allocated single rooms though extensions were still in progress to the facility.

The bases corridors and certain rooms originally bore number as well as function titles though these were later renamed following a vote arranged by Director Harroway. This saw the corridors being renamed after famous streets, squares and buildings on Earth. This saw much of the decor of the base in NeoRetro consisting of contrasting styles and period details. The area was chosen by President Allenby himself to create an environment of diversity for all staff members. Size and sophistication of the base was achieved by massive funding from Earth Control with development of revolutionary building techniques along with material simulations by Babelophony Inc.
