The Holy Sol Temple is a religion that features in Fire Force.

History

The Holy Sol Temple (Japanese: 聖陽教会, Hepburn: Seiyō Kyōkai) was a religious institution that was established on Earth following the Great Cataclysm (大災害, Daisaigai) that devastated the world. In that time, a band of survivors led by Raffles I (ラフルス1世, Rafurusu 1 Sei) came to find an Adolla Burst (アドラバースト, Adora Bāsuto). With it, he helped establish Amaterasu (天照, Amaterasu) that was a thermal generator which was used to power the creation of the Tokyo Empire. One of the founding bodies created in this time was the Holy Sol Temple that established a religion that worshipped the sun who they knew as Sol. Unknown to anyone, Raffles I came to be replaced by a being from another world named Yona who took his place and helped found the Tokyo Empire along with the various founding organizations. Following the outbreak of Spontaneous Human Combustion, The Holy Sol Temple became one of the three organisations that formed the Special Fire Brigade, with members of the church praying for the souls of Infernals upon death. The members of the Special Fire Force refuse to kill infernals without a priest or sister present to say the sacred prayer.

Many years ago, the temple was noted to had found an orphan who was recruited to be part of their secret cadre of assassins known as Holy Sol's Shadow. This saw him being given the name Five-Two where he was trained in combat alongside others underneath the stern leadership of their captain. Their captain was noted to had abused those under his charge both publicly and privately in an effort to break them mentally.

Some time after Hibana and Iris joined, the church they lived in caught fire and incinerated all the sisters except for the pair as the result of Spontaneous Human Combustion. The two surviving sisters fled, with Iris remaining part of the church while Hibana left to pursue her own goals.

In Year 184, the Temple's shadowy assassins observed the fire in the Kusakabe household. This group aimed to locate and kill the abducted Shō Kusakabe, but failed.

In Year 198, the priest of The Holy Sol Temple and two other church members attended the Rookie Fire Soldier Games, alongside other important figures.

Joker approaches Benimaru Shinmon to tell him dangerous information involving The Holy Sol Temple. Questioned about his identity, Joker says he's the anti-hero. Though Joker comes across as suspicious, he intrigues Benimaru enough to follow him. As the pair observe the The Holy Sol Temple – Holy See from a rooftop, he tells Benimaru he wants to uncover the truth the empire is hiding. Setting his eyes on the true sacred scriptures that contain the empire's history, Joker follows Benimaru as he arrives through the compounds front entrance. Defeating the church's elites, Joker looks on as Benimaru is subdued by a member of the church via poison. Benimaru quickly recovers and the pair make their way into the Temple, only to find it empty. As Benimaru Shinmon and Joker explore the underground passages beneath the Holy See, a minimum of eight Shadows approach them from the darkness with their hands in the reverse prayer gesture. The majority of the group battle against Benimaru while the Shadow Captain battles against Joker. Despite their endurance and skill, the Shadows are ultimately beaten by the Captain of Company 7. The captain battles against Joker and is able to overpower him until the criminal's illusions leave him vulnerable. Distracted and separated from the group, the Captain is quickly killed by Joker. With only one death, Leonardo Burns is able to force the Holy Sol to deal with the matter internally and allow Joker and Benimaru to leave peacefully.

Overview

In appearance, the Holy Sol Temple was a religious body of considerable influence within the Tokyo Empire. Their ranks consisted of Sisters, Priests and Monks all of whom worshipped Sol the Sun God.

It was a requirement of the church that prayers be made for the souls of Infernals upon death. As such, each of the Special Fire Force companies were to have a an adherent of the temple amongst their ranks in order to administer these last rites. The only exception to this was Special Fire Force Company 7 with this stemming from the fact that the inhabitants of Asakusa were opposed to the faith of the Holy Sol Temple.

The Special Fire Force Company 1 is vastly composed of members from the temple. Furthermore, due to the Tokyo Empire's belief that only the Holy Sol Temple can provide medicine, the medically focused Special Fire Force Company 6 is also one of the Temple's constituents.

The temple maintained a secret cadre of assassins known as the Holy Sol's Shadow (聖陽の影, Seiyō no Kage) that served as executioners dispatched to eliminate enemies of the faith. Members wore white uniforms reminiscent of harlequins with masks that had curved eyes and were devoid of mouths. When operating in the field, they tended to wear black cloaks over their uniforms to hide themselves from the public. On missions, these assassins prioritised team-work and quick hand-to-hand combat which they used to eliminate their targets.

For their headquarters, the organisation was based at the Holy Sol Temple – Holy See (聖陽教会 教皇庁, Seiyō Kyōkai Kyōkōchō).
